Are the new AMC 10 problems harder than the old AMC 10 problems?

I don't think the questions are getting harder, per se - but it IS harder to get a high AMC score now that they changed the scoring system to 1.5 points per blank, rather than 2.5 points.

I heard from the underclassmen that the AMC 10 seemed easier this year, compared to before - they said it's to reflect the new scoring system so that the old scores may be compared to the new scores. However, I think it's no more than a placebo effect.

Quite honestly, it's a lot easier to score 100 (roughly top 5%) on the AMC 12 than top 1% on the AMC 10, whatever they choose it to be. :P

It's passing for AIME from the 12 and 10 about the same for me.

Just get used to the format. There is nothing you can do to change the problems.

btw is it true that no more calculators on AMCs?

yep, no more calculators.

Yea, they thought people with TI-89's had an unfair advantage. I have to admit though, last year, I did brute force a problem using the 89, so I guess it's a good decision. This will probably mean less qualifiers for AIME next year.

oh well.... i'll just have to make sure i can do addition, subtraction and multi digit multiplications now >.< awww....darn
