Amc10a/12b 2011?

I just took AMC 12 B yesterday and got the worst score in my life.

I am a sophomore and I got 136.5 on AMC10A, but got like 91.5 on AMC 12B,

because I was somehow blind during the test.

Any ideas for the 12B cutline? I want to go to USAMO so badly... than USAJMO..:-(

Even if you did qualify, you would likely need a 12 on the AIME to make USAMO. Why are you attracted to USAMO so much more than USAJMO? I wish it was an option when I was a freshman/sophomore.

Woah, I did both tests and got one question (6 points) less than you on both (due to some very stupid mistakes).

No offense, but I agree; you’d need a very high AIME score to make USAMO. It’s not bad to qualify for USAJMO :P

oh… wait but what is the difference between USAJMO and USAMO?

I know USAJMO is consisted of ‘younger’ members… but how young?

I mean, do they even get the same questions on USAJMO as USAMO?

Thanks, :D

Oh, come on. JMO isn’t bad. Sure, if you’re going for prestige, the USAMO is definitely more selective, hence the requirement that you can only qualify through the harder 12. But the problems are still going to be as challenging. Except more suited to a non-USAMO qualifier’s level.

I don’t think there’s much of a difference in prestige between USAMO and USAJMO. They just decided to split it so that 10th graders and below would be able to take an Olympiad that is more at their level – to make it to that level, you still need to be extremely talented at math.

See, USAJMO is for approx. 230 kids each year (while USAMO is approx. 270) – formerly it used to simply be 500 kids in USAMO. But as you can see from this statistic:

“In 2007, among 506 students invited to take the USAMO, 229 were in 10th grade and below”

…approx. 230 of USAMO qualifiers were 10th graders and below anyway; so, those 230 kids are now just taking the USAJMO. It’s likely that most would have qualified for USAMO had the split not occurred.

Plus, I’m sure most kids who qualify for USAJMO also qualify for USAMO in 11th/12th grade.

…You can look at the difference between USAMO and USAJMO, you probably would get a zero on USAMO, not joking if you don’t even know how it works… it’s very difficult type of questions proof oriented. USAJMO and USAMO do share a few questions, and you can prepare for USAMO in Junior and Senior year. AMC 10 grades are just stellar so be happy!!
