AMCAS Course Classifications

OK, I have a question....

I've checked the AMCAS official course classification guide, but can't find an answer to this question.

Would coursework in Cognitive Science be counted in the BCMP or not. At D's school Brain and Cog Sci has its own dept. Neuro majors are a division under the Bio dept, but at least half of their coursework says BCS (Brain & Cog Sci). Most of the classes are cross-listed as Neuro, but appear on transcript as BCS.

For example, Basic Neurobiology is BCS course, so is Neurochemistry, but both are clearly (IMO) BCMP classes. Do they get included under BCMP for GPA calculations?

I’d look at the course description and make a call based on that. If it is still unclear and it helps the sGPA to call it BCPM then I would go with calling it biology. My understanding is that AMCAS will just reclassify it if they don’t agree and this should not create any delays unless you want to argue with their reclassification.

When son filled out AMCAS there were some iffy classes. And some seemed clear cut. AMCAS changed the ones they wanted to change. And since he didn’t disagree no time lost.
