I recently applied to AMDA (the American musical and dramatic academy) in NYC. I have a GPA of 2.2 in high school and a 1.5 in college after 2 semesters. (I only took 3 classes and after this semester it will be a 3.0). I know they’re not high but i wrote in my essays how I have learned and become a better student. I have lots of stage experience and acting experience and I feel like my audition went well. And i pointed out multiple times that I am determined to work hard in school. I was wondering what my chances of being accepted are! I’m so nervous!

I know the post is old but I think arts students looking for the right school will read the old post. I hope some of those students read mine. My son looked at many schools for a dance major and chose AMDA. It offered the best education for a dance theater career. Many schools trained for modern dance and ballet companies but AMDA offered better training in the areas of theatrical performance dance. He worked very hard and it was the best educational choice he could have made for himself. He received excellant training and AMDA worked him hard. He made great friends and some great connections. It gave him the NYC experience and he wants to stay there after he graduates. The dance program is fairly new (about 3 years) and the class sizes were small and offered a lot on individualized attention. He definately grew as a dancer and choosing AMDA for dance was the best decision for him.

If AMDA wants to rebuild its reputation its not going to do it with one-post wonders. NT Corbin does have 6 posts but all of them are on the subject of AMDA. Lavazia’s post is not believable in any respect. Reads like a straight marketing piece. Where is the AMDA post from the student who was on this forum while selecting schools, who chose AMDA over other schools, and has a board reputation from having 100+ posts on this board. Where is the post from a mother or father who went through this entire process and is now coming back and recommending AMDA? When those things happen, people can talk about AMDA’s recommendation improving. But a one post wonder doesn’t do anything for me.

My daughter is seriously looking at non-degree training in NY if she does not get into the “right” BFA school and there are many much better choices out there.
