Amending FAFSA

Would updating the FAFSA at this point to changed the answer "will file tax return" to "completed" affect anything? The estimates that I had put were correct.

Yes! You should definitely update that status so schools can finalize your FA award!

Would it affect any government grants that I had already received? I first filed the FAFSA with the estimates long before the deadline.

How can you have received government grants based on the 10/11 FAFSA? The earliest aid would be distributed is summer semester. Or are you saying you’ve received FA estimates for next year? If your EFC doesn’t change, there’s no reason your grants would change. If you have to update financial info, that could change your EFC.

My EFC has not changed, but I heard that if you submit it late then you don’t receive an award, so I’m afraid of updating the “will file” to “completed.” My estimates were correct though. I guess I’ll amend it now, just in case. I applied to a private university that uses the IDOC, which I had sent in on time, so hopefully, things will be okay. Thank you for your help!

Don’t worry, you’re not submitting it late…your submission date with a “will file” is sufficient for meeting priority deadlines. But they do need it finalized to calculate fed/state grants.
