american acceptance rate

does anyone have any idea what it is? their general acceptance rate seems rather high (56% on collegeboard), but im assuming that is a bit harder for americans since there is a pretty high interest level here. i just dont know how hard, and i was wondering if anyone could enlighten me so many i could compare that to other colleges that i am applying to, which would help make weighing my chances in comparison to other schools easier.

thanks

I heard that it's actually less competitive for americans because they want our money, but as far as arts and sciences is concerned, about 100 americans were accepted when 2000 applied a few years ago.

where did you get those stats? that can't be right. There is no way that a few years ago they only accepted 5% of US students applying to arts and sciences.

yeah if those are true im gonna flip because i applied to arts and sciences as an english major....mcgill is pretty large too, and i would guess (although im not positive) that the arts and sciences faculty holds the most majors so there would have to be more than 100 americans..if not, im so screwed.

something tells me i should have applied management, although my math grades in relationship to my english ones suggested otherwise...

ahhh

why? If you want to major in english, why would you ever compromise for business?

Arts & Sciences dual major is the newest and hardest faculty to get admitted
to at McGill:

Interfaculty, B.A.&Sc. 2007
3,127 applicants 191 enrolled

2006 Interfaculty, B.A.&Sc. 4732 applicants 229 enrolled

I dont know 2005, the first year, but 74 Americans were accepted (my daughter
was one) out of over 2000 applicants. The faculty is less than 600 students total, so be sure to also apply for a second faculty such as Arts or Sciences separately.

At my daughters A&S honors class, the professor told the A&S students that McGill has been tracking them closely and the students accepted into the first two years of the program have a GPA about .5 higher than the average student at McGill. It is a very strenuous program and many students are happier with the separate programs.

To be very clear- There is a Arts Faculty, a Science Faculty and a new Arts& Sciences Faculty--three separate Faculties. The Arts Faculty, means a liberal arts education (history, literature, social sciences--not Fine Arts) and is very large and easier to be admitted into. The Sciences Faculty (Chem, Psychology,Biology ) is also very large and slightly harder than Arts to be admitted into. The Arts&Sciences is a small group and the students do a dual major- one in Arts and one in Sciences. It is more difficult to be accepted into A&S. You apply to each faculty separately, but on the same application.

This year the Faculty of Arts had 7163 students, Science had 4765 and
Arts and Sciences 559. That should give you some idea of the relative sizes.

ok. whew. so i applied to the arts faculty for an english major, that makes me feel a little bit relieved. thanks for clearing things up.

Oh, ok:):)

Shucks! I didn't realize the interfaculty program existed (back when I was applying, McGill was like...8th on my list :( but now it's like 1! :D). Is there any way to transfer in as a freshman/sophomore?
