American citizenry have the right to grill Sarah Palin

dbate says

“It is not a novel concept, creation has been taught in Church for thousands of years.
Also creationsim is hardly “your religion” as every religion on earth holds to a creation story.”

Yikes people. I didn’t say it was a novel concept and I know it has been taught in Church. Creationsim is your religion not mine. and I know the VP doesn’t control education. I just will vote for someone who understands the complexity of human thought and has put in the time to study and understand it.

It’s not my “religion”. It’s just another hypothesis that seeks to explain our existence. Why are you fine with them telling us that yes, earth is 6 billion years old, and other big claims, when we’ve only had a history of, what…100 years of hard science?

This is so silly, I’m out of here. Have fun in your very small world. It must be soft, cuddly and secure. I’m sure those who are voting with you are so proud.

Both Bill Clinton and George Bush had to dumb themselves down in order to be elected. Calling them Ivy League candidates in the form of JFK or Herbert Walker Bush is being disingenuous.

I don’t believe that ONLY Ivy League grads should be considered for high-ranking positions, but I refuse to live in an America that resembles a third-grade classroom where the smart kids have to hide their abilities because of the idiocracy that reigns supreme. And I’m sure as hell not going to let the sour Homer Simpsons of America try to give themselves another undeserved four years in the White House just because they can’t stand to see the young handsome smart guy succeed.

Of course, you’re right. We cherish mediocrity here in America. God forbid that we have an overt intellectual as our leader. Of course, “intellectual” has become one of those funny words–like “liberal” and “feminist.” Not a good thing to be anymore.

“If I am not mistaken.” “…so I assume.”

These are not the words of someone who can confidently state the positions of the potential president of the United States. And the fact that her son is serving in Iraq doesn’t shed a light on a thing; Joe Biden’s son is going to Iraq too. You think Joey thinks Saddam caused 9/11?

So she’s essentially his yes-woman? I thought she was going to bring change?

Such beliefs DO matter because anybody who believes in creationism is a goddamn moron. In Canada, there was a leader called Stockwell Day who did pretty well for a while as the social conservative candidate, until it was revealed he believed in creationism. Then his candidacy became a joke. You see, in a decently-informed country, such moronic beliefs such as creationism is not tolerated as differences in belief but excoriated for what they really are: lunacy.

Hypocritically, all these conservative xenophobe types that are willing to actually consider creationism as a viable alternative are hellbent on keeping such “savage” systems such as Shari’ah Law out of their precious western society.

Obama’s never lied about how being a politician in Illinois automatically gives him foreign policy via proximity. That’s the difference.

I’ll trade the presidency for control of congress any day. That being said, I don’t like for either party to have control of both at the same time.

Certainly, the Democratic experiment of 2006 hasn’t worked.

Face it, as a seasoned member of CollegeConfidential, do you reject the premise that Ivy admission is based on:
≥ Legacy/Development Admit
≥ SAT scores
≥ Academic excellence (meaning ability to memorise textbooks, study daily, hence leading to good test results)
≥ 37261651 Extracurricular activities
AND
is heavily affected by family environment

I don’t see in ANY way how intellectualism (if solely equated to Ivy League) can be equated to having diplomacy, inspirating-ness, and other qualities. Like, maybe people like, feel there are better ways to lead their lives than engaging in frantic studying over a three-hour test?

fiona_ most of the people who get into Ivy league schools aren’t like that. You’re not going to do something you don’t like; ergo you won’t care so much about academics and service if you didn’t actually like them (unless you’re one of the crazy people on CC who create 15 chance threads. I unlike you, see that intellectualism is easily more important than all those other qualities-especially considering intellectualism gives you the bigger picture. People praise McCain for being a POW, but to be honest, I see the President of the Harvard Law Review as a far more venerable position and apropos towards becoming President. But clearly you don’t. We don’t need to argue that here.

Stop being so fixated on the Ivy League. My point was that having academic ability should be an important quality that we seek in our leader. Unfortunately, too many Americans are like third-graders in that they resent the “nerds” and think that ignorant loudness equals strength or something. With this mindset, we shouldn’t be surprised if in the next 50 years, Europe and China overtake us while Americans keep promoting idiots instead of intellectuals.

Evolution is a theory. It can’t be proven any more or less than creationism. Just thinking it doesn’t make it a reality.

Ah, the Godwin’s Law of the evolution debate.

Do you have any understanding of science at all? Theories are not waiting to be proven. Theories are what scientists use to explain facts. Atomic theory will not one day become atomic fact. That evolution is “only” a theory does not mean that it is somehow intellectually okay to postulate that dinosaurs walked side-by-side with people.

The idea that creationism is viable merely because it’s not unprovable (a lie in any case) is just damned pathetic.

Let’s play that game, shall we?

Your ancestors were pimps and whores. And they practised their trade secretly, so there is no record of their illicit activities. Now prove me wrong. Otherwise, I can assume that what I said is true.

^^^I have an understanding of science and if you know that theories are soundly supported but lack empricial testings to become law.

Oh and you said that ppl that believe in Creation are morons. So please answer my question and stop avoiding it.

Question: please explain what Heisenberg’s equation tells us, and also how pertubation theory can be applied to study particles?

Surely if a moron like me who believes in GOD can manage to teach himself this than you can answer it.

IF YOU DON’T ANSWER THEN DON’T POST.

Yes, nba, I do disagree that intellectualism (by your definition) is a necessary candidate. While I’m not discrediting that intellectuals are required for our society, like in engineering or whatever. I’m just disappointed that you really feel academic ability (which is highly related INTELLIGENCE QUOTIENT) is necessary.

If ya read the Federalist papers where they define patriotism. Guess what being a patriot is. Question every aspect of government possible.

If you believe that dinosaur bones are a test of faith from god and that the earth is only 5000 years old, you are a moron.

What’s your obsession with the Heisenberg principle? Is that the one thing you managed to memorize verbatim from the textbooks from the library and now whip out whenever you want to prove your intelligence? You sound like the pony-tailed guy in the Harvard bar from “Good Will Hunting”.

Wait, so you don’t feel like our national leaders need to be intelligent?

How’d this get from grilling Palin to this intelligent design vitriol?

Personal opinion, I think she did a LOT of avoidance during the Gibson interview. Bush doctrine… wha!?

And I like the entire… Alaska is near Russia, erego, I have foreign policy experience. What a crock.

October veep debates are going to be interesting. It’s sad though that the Republicans are rallying more for this unknown, inexperienced candidate that’s not even going for the presidency… although it’s for McCain’s benefit, I suppose.

You’re right. We’re getting off topic now.

Not to mention the fact that eastern Russia (Siberia) is a tundra. Moscow and St. Petersburg are WAY over the western side of Russia.
