i have a 32/42 on the ib for my first semester of IB1 and i want a college with 1) a good social and party scene thats in an 2) urban location, with good 3) financial aid for international students ,and preferably a 4) liberal arts college. thats pretty much it. please leave suggestions for colleges you think fit these criterions. thanksssss <3
what about your ACT scores? EC’s? Major interests? Etc. I know that although you have IB scores, most colleges still request ACTs or a form of standardized testing as IB within the states is treated like AP credits to help you get out of core classes. In any case, there are many fantastic liberal arts schools such as Amherst or Vassar but more information must be known to suggest which schools are a fit for you
How much can your family pay? Do you need soem financial aid, or do you need a full-ride?
Do you have good options in your country, or must you come here to study?
Do you care where you study, or must you attend a place that is in the top XX of US institutions?
Is your school one where in scores reflect what they preictnfor the end of ib2 or a school where the score reflects where you are right now?
What’s your budget?
*ib scores, not ‘in scores’
US colleges tend to be very competitive for international students. Applicants are effectively evaluated in different, sometimes overlapping, pools. At public universities, in-state students, out-of-state (OOS) students, and international students are generally treated as separate groups, with different targeted numbers for each group. Internationals generally “compete” with other internationals, and there are many, many applicants for relatively few spots. And, yes, the financial side is very important. With lots of applicants, schools can generally mostly accept full-pay students and offer financial aid to relatively few, sometimes none. So it is challenging, especially if an international applicant is not full pay.
I suggest you google “US colleges that offer financial aid to international students.” Here is one article from a reliable source in September 2017 that lists 50 schools. Many are extremely competitive. The University of Tulsa is one that is less competitive but still an excellent school in a city. Using this list (I don’t really know anything specifically about financial aid for internationals at these schools), I’d also point you to the University of Illinois Urbana Champaigne (state flagship, major research university) and Illinois Institute of Technology (for technology/science). Also Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for science/technology (I don’t think a party school).
I understand that the University of Alabama at Huntsville gives lots of merit aid. Huntsville is home to NASA facilities and is high-tech center. You might also look at the University of New Mexico; New Mexico State; University of Arizona; and Arizona State University. These give some aid, though they would probably still cost pretty much. Some of the southern universities like Universities of Mississippi and Arkansas might also give you merit aid. I don’t know that, but you could research it.
Most of these schools are in “college towns.” The University of New Mexico is in a big city with a major airport. Good luck!
i probably need something close to a full ride, my parents have agreed to pay like $10,000 max, and im from nepal so out options are very limited so i have to go to the us
Your only chance is to score the absolute highest on the sat or act.
However with a 10k budget you can look into the German universities or some French programs, which are tuition free even for non Europeans.
