<p>Ask a trusted history professor. He or she can tell you what graduate programs are hot these days. </p>

<p>Also, take a look at web sites to see the faculty, their recent books, and the placements of their graduate students. Don't apply at a school that doesn't show strength in period/places you want to study.</p>
