I think I may have a bit of a tough decision ahead of me. I didn't get into my first choice (Northwestern), so I have narrowed down my choices to one of these two schools: American and George Washington. I don't know which one to pick! I prefer GW's location, but I also want to get the best education possible. Does anyone know if American's honors program is academically challenging? I appreciate any input! Thanks!

It is. The two schools are pretty comparable academically in most areas except for the sciences (where GW is somewhat stronger although neither are great). The biggest differences are cultural. GW is very urban, with no real campus (except for Mt Vernon, which is a schlep). In this way, it is more like BU or NYU. AU is a more traditional college campus–almost suburban although it is still in DC. Go with the one which is more comfortable to you.

What do you want to study?

FYI - AU has a higher percentage of females - 60%.

I’m planning on studying history or english, possibly political science.
