???American Pageant???

I'm self-studying for APUSH, and I'm looking for the American Pageant book online, but there's like a zillion different kinds, like American Pageant: History of the Republic, or American Pageant: Brief Version, or American Pageant, Volumes I and II. Which one(s) did you guys use in your APUSH class? Thanks :)

it's been a few years, but this is the one my apush class used:

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/061810349X/qid=1123365180/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-3193425-0380620?v=glance&s=books&n=507846%5B/url%5D">http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/061810349X/qid=1123365180/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-3193425-0380620?v=glance&s=books&n=507846</a></p>

(for some reason, amazon only has it listed as 101 pages, but at $100, that's got to be a mistake, and if you do the "look inside" thing, it shows the full table of contents that i remember, so I'm pretty sure it's the right one).

I think that volumes I and II are the same book that I just linked to, but broken into two halves (better if you're, say, going to be carrying the book around with you), but you might want to check on the publisher's website to be sure.

the american pageant is very liberal and won't ensure a 4 or 5.

the american pageant is also written to leave out many things, including Liberia. I think they want to talk about how bad white people are.

anyway, i DON'T recommend the american pageant.

Okay, that's the first bad thing I've heard about the American Pageant so far, could anyone else backup bingo, or suggest a better APUSH textbook?

I would recommend the Eduring Vision by Paul Boyar, although American Pageant is good book.

i used the american pagent in my apush class and got a 5

however, i also used study books. i used princeton review mostly. my friend used 5 steps to a 5 book, but i didn't. you can use that in addition.

like the person above, i used the american pageant (think it was the 12th edition) and the princeton review. i ended up with a 5 and i owe it to those two books.

american pageant is one of the best textbooks for APUSH, but by itself won't in the slightest guarantee a 5. I used the Princeton review a little, and about a bajillion notes/outlines that I found online. THey were free and I think they're what got me the 5.

I loved (to laugh at) American Pageant! My favorite line:

What nation in its right mind, they reasoned, would refuse so lavish a dowry? The radiant Texan bride, officially petitioning for annexation in 1837, presented herself for marriage. But the expectant groom, Uncle Sam, was jerked back by the black hand of the slavery issue...

It's a really good book, though. We used the book in my IB history class, which covers a lot more stuff than AP USH, and most people did very well on the exam. We got to keep the old editions. :D

a standing joke from the book in our class: New england= cod and god. cod and god, cod and god, cod and god...

and guess what? a question appeared on the SATII with that almost exactly as the answer!

i didn't think the american pagent was liberal at all

why would you say that?

Once you get used to the Bailey-isms, Pageant is not that bad of a book, but because of its size and extra details, you're going to need a good review book to sumaraize what you need to know. The most commonly recommended books are AMSCO and REA.

It's a good book, even though I thought it was boring as hell. If you're looking for a test prep review book, get AMSCO, REA, or PR.

I just bought The American Pageant for my online APUSH class. If you do decide to get it, get it from Half.com! I got mine in great condition for 45 bucks! :D Good luck!

how is american pageant good when it bashes white people? the book praises the CRAPIEST black senators (most of the blacks elected after the Civil War were illiterates)... it then goes on to say the founding fathers may not be noble. I have a bunch of notes written about the book.

get real... please.

The Jewish Media at its best...
