american student admission chances

I am interested in applying to the Faculty of Engineering. I am an upper-middle-class white female from the state of Ohio and will graduate in May of 2012.
In general, my scores are as follows:
Cumulative GPA - 3.823 UW
Rank - 29 of 161 (top 20%)
ACT - 33 (will most likely be a 34 when I take it again)

I know that I am a strong student and these scores look pretty solid from the outside, and I did have a 4.0 UW GPA until my junior year. However, my junior year I tested out of high school courses and began taking college courses for dual credit. I received a B in my university Trig class and a C in my (online and very difficult) university Calculus class.

Due to my extensive extracurricular activities (many clubs, theatre leads, first chair orchestra member three years in a row, 100s of hours of community service, varsity letterman, member and leader of church youth activities, selected representative at many recognized local, national and international youth leadership programs, as well as graduating with 45 transferable college credit hours from a respected state institution), I know that many schools would be happy to have me. However, McGill's application is based on marks and loosely considered recommendations. I guess I'm just wondering if the B and C have potentially ruined my chances of getting into the school. Anyone have any insight? I'd be so grateful.

I reviewed the qualifications posted on their websites, but those are only snap shots of what has made it in the past and I would just like to hear what any of yo have to say. Sorry if that sounded a little dry and boastful, I am just trying to state my credits :/ I really love Montreal and McGill, and it is one of my top choices to finish my undergrad. Thank you so much for your time :)

As with anything, you won’t know if you try. That being said, does McGill even ask for letters of Rec? I cannot remember. I just remember sending my transcript and ACT scores. I got accepted with a 3.8-something UW GPA and a 32 ACT (this was back about 5 years ago, though).

The impression I’m under is that they only care about your last 2 years’ worth of course work, in particular the work relevant to your intended major. So if you want to go into the Faculty of Arts, they’re going to look at your English and Social Sciences / Humanities marks. For the Faculty of Science, they’re going to look at the Bio, Chem, Phys, and upper-classmen Math marks. They usually suggest an A- average among the relevant courses. However, I’m sure college classes are considered with more favor (e.g. a B in a college course might translate to at least a B+/A-) but I’m just pulling that out of my a$$.

I’d say your chances aren’t ruined, but I wouldn’t say definitively, “you’re in”. Just pay the $80 and spin the wheel, is my advice.
