American University Class of 2014 RD thread

American Excellence Scholarship ($29,000 annually). I’m going to try and update American about my being a National Achievement Scholar to see if I can get a little more money.
@raelah: Yeah, that was a pretty nice envelope. It totally beat all the rest of my acceptances. :D

Darn! I usually get my stuff the day after everyone else. But…Texas is gettin’ this slow, apparently. :'(

^That is quite a ways for the envelope to go. I’m sure it’ll bring good news for you. Relax and take it easy (Mika =<3). :D

It seems like the first batch of acceptances all involve Honors and Scholarships.

nothing in FL yet. (just the email)
hopefully will get something tomorrow… don’t want to wait unti monday! :)

Is there anyone who was accepted that didn’t think of American as a first choice, but is now planning to go? I applied there as a safety but their financial aid is almost too good to pass up. Ahhhhh, decisions!

I live in Alaska and received my acceptance letter today. I am sorry if this bursts the bubble about living too far away from DC. ;)

We are living internationally and my s got the email the other day, now we have to wait for package. I called and they said they sent out international ones usually by Fedex in case anyone else is wondering.

S received package today. School of public affairs. Deans scholarship, $20k annually. No honors. hmmm. University College program.

Stats:
national merit commended. 4.0 unweighted. SAT 1 - 2220 (780R, 680M 760W) Salutatorian, 2/127, Student Council President, Student Body Advocate to School Board, Mock Trial team captain, student of the month for several service organizations, Sr Section Yearbook Editor. Numerous national level trophies in academic games competition.

Certainly interesting to think about.

Initiate:

Do you think that is something that maybe can be negotiated? Your sons stats appear to be quite great…If it were his top choice would it be worth a call to admissions for Honors Program? Maybe to get bumped from Deans to a higher level? Seems your son compares favorably to many here that did get honors and did get higher merit.

Thoughts anyone?
(waiting on letter for my D with very similar stats.)

i live in the bay area and still didnt get the envelope, so i dont know if i got into honors or any scholarships. but those that did get the envelope seem like they ALL got both. did anybody get the envelope already and NOT get into honors or not get a significant scholarship?

i didnt apply for any scholarships because AU wasnt my first choice unless i get into honors, so would i still get automatically considered for some scholarships based on merit?

did any business majors get in?

@superorange, what major are you?

Imontoya

Good Question, and we will look into it. I think it may have something to do with the School to which S applied. My gut says the competition in public affairs/political science is pretty stiff at AU.

Got 27000 merit aid but no honors and I’m a little confused about that

also in the Bay Area and no envelope yet but not expecting any merit aid (could be wrong and would be pleasantly surprised). D is one of 3 kids from her h.s. that got accepted to AU this week and one did get $$

live in socal and still no email or eenvelopes

To all acceptees - did your scholarship awards also include any award of need-based aid too!

“S” recieved acceptance e-mail, but no snail mail as of yet.

I’m undecided, person who was asking. :)

CJ,

AU included a loan and ‘self-reported outside award’ to pump up the total. I ignored those. The Dean’s Scholarship alone is $20K.

CJ Madison - I’m with you. D got the email acceptance “early” - on Wed - but no letter yet. Two of her classmates received theirs yesterday (with $20K/yr). If she gets that, she’s likely going… but I just don’t know with her stats. Mail doesn’t come for 3 more hrs and now she’s out…FA will be big factor. Don’t know if we should get hopes up or what. We have not received FA packets from any schools and still waiting to hear accepted or not at two more (one that she’s really interested in). She got sizable merit $ and honors program at one of her safeties, but that’s not really a consideration at this point. AU is probably #1 on her list now, but she is trying not to get excited about the acceptance bc of the price tag…

CJ- packet came for my son today and yes there is a an estimated financial aid package included including any scholarship, grants, work study or loans they are anticipating.
