American University Early Decision 2011

I figure I would start this thread so I could be nervous with other AU early decision candidates. All of my friends have their own schools to worry about so i’m bringing my thoughts to CC.

Im NJ Student applying to American, which is my number one choice by far. Hoping to study CLEG (Communications, Law Studies, Economics, Government Agencies).

So introduce yourself, any thoughts or concerns, or most importantly whether you were notified (I know we have a couple weeks to go but for the future). I heard that AU calls some students, other receive emails. So yeah, just an open forum to talk. Good luck everyone!

Hi! I’m a New Jersey (female) ED candidate as well. I applied to study in SOC. I’m super nervous but trying not to think about it too much.

Hi! I’m a VA female and I applied ED to American also! I am soo nervous, I’ve been counting down the days until the 25th (they said everyone usually knows before Christmas). I keep hoping that there’s some way to know what my chances are.

Based off of last years thread its sometime around the 16th-19th. Some people said they were even called by their admissions counselor, talk about nerve racking.

Does anyone know how they contact you? Is it by Email or snail mail?

Hi! I’m from PA and want to go to American sooo bad. I’m so afraid that I’m not going to get in and then I won’t be happy anywhere else. I heard they tell you the 15th but I don’t know how. I literally have a pit in my stomach that won’t go away

Me too aued123! Have you visited? It’s soo pretty and homey. I hope they mail it the old fashioned way

Heyy everyone!! I’m from California (female) and I applied ED to American too! I really hope we all get in!!! How many people do you think ED? Does anyone know the percentage of ED applicants they admit? I know I read this somewhere…but I tried looking for it again and can’t find it!!!

Good luck to everyone though!

I did visit and I just absolutely loved it. DC is a great area!

I am applying to American ED as well and I just want to know if I got in!! What is the actual day that we find out? I have heard both the 15th and the 31st and I do not know which one is correct.

dhammerman06- I emailed admissions tonight. Threads from last year just make me more nervous. People got phone calls, people got emails, people got mail. I’ll let everyone know what admissions says when they email me back.

I applied ED too! I’m from Massachusetts and I auditioned for the theatre BA. I can’t wait to hear back! I’m so anxious :)

Hey guys!

Hang in there. I know the waiting is horrible – I’ve done it twice. You’ll probably hear by phone or email. If they can’t get a hold of you before they leave for the Holidays, they’ll send you an e-mail, but they do like to get it out before Christmas as a nice ‘presant’ to all the ED applicants.

I know you guys have all already decided on AU, but if you have any questions – I’m more than happy to answer them either here or through private message. I’m a senior in SPA - Political Science (shocking, I know) and involved in a bunch of stuff on campus and internships.

Good luck!

My child who has applied ED, was never advised by his guidance counselor that the first quarter grades would not be submitted as a part of the common app. That being said, my child is presently taking AP English with a good grade as well as good grades in the other classes. This is especially important as he struggled in his prior two years due to extenuating circumstances which he addressed in the common app and also referenced to now overcoming those circumstances as reflected in his senior grade improvement.
Upon finding out on my own that guidance did not follow up, I requested that they fax the first quarter grades to AU which they did today.
Should he personally email the admissions officer simply to confirm the receipt of the fax? Even if the admissions office hasn’t reviewed it, at least it shows some desire to ensure a full review and alert the counselor that the matrix of information was incomplete until now and that they may opt to delay a final decision due within the next 2-3 weeks pending that tidbit of info.

@Friarfran According to the admissions officers at American (I asked a similar question cause my first quarter grades were good) they have a strict policy that they do not review 1st quarter grades unless they ask for them after reviewing the profile.

However, it cannot hurt to reach out to the officers to get a direct response to your situation.

Best of luck to your son!

I know that all of you are on pins and needles as decision day draws close…our family was in the same situation two years ago when my son applied to American ED.

He is a happy sophomore at AU now and I hope all of you will be joining him soon!

I applied early too!! I hope we all make it!

ahh! any ideas as to when we’ll find out if we get in?!

I am a current freshman, and I applied ED last year. I know how anxious you all must be! If I remember correctly, I heard on a Friday. I think it was Dec 18th. I found out through mail, but I know some people that received phone calls. It depends on your admissions rep.
Good luck! If you gain acceptance, you will absolutely love it here! I just finished my first semester…no complaints! Don’t want to go home!

Where do you live? I am trying to figure out how long it will take to get it by mail haha!
I am so anxious and nervous! I really want to find out soon!
