American University early decision

Hello all! I am currently a junior in high school and I’m wondering what my chances are of getting admitted into American University early decision!

GPA: 3.3 uw
SAT(old): 2100
EC: NHS, Senior Class president, Go Green Society president, School Site Council president, varsity soccer captain, etc ( a lot more clubs)

I also have a good reason/explanation of why my gpa is pretty low

demonstrated interest is key for american. visit the campus, contact your admissions rep, and make sure au knows you want to be there!

Yes my parents can afford full tuition and price isn’t an issue

Demonstrated interest is one of the most important things about applying to AU. When I applied, both of their optional supplements are about what you would be interested in pursuing at American. I had virtually no community service, no clubs, 1 super dedicated extracurricular and an average gpa an I got in ED1 because the one thing I know they took away from my application was that this was that AU was the one place that I could truly picture myself.

If you demonstrate interest, I’d say likely especially considering you can pay full price. (I’d make sure you have a conversation with your parents about that, though - the full price for this year is 61K). The acceptance rate was 89% for ED this year so I’d say that you have a better chance that way instead of RD.

I completely agree that demonstrated interest is key. Two years ago, a kid from school got accepted to Harvard but was wait listed at American because he didn’t even visit the campus.
