American University FDDS Scholarship

Hey all! I’m applying to AU regular decision and am preparing to apply for the Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars Program. To everyone else who has applied or is applying (and especially those who were accepted), could you tell me as much as you know about the scholarship? How many people are typically invited to interview? And I know the scholarship is selective, but how selective would you personally say it is? My unweighted GPA is a 3.8125, and my ACT is a 29. I am Pakistani American, Muslim, and first gen, and my household income is <100,000. How would you gauge my chances? Thanks in advance!

My daughter applied for the Frederick Douglass scholarship. I think it depends on who applies but she called the University and they said that you have to have a minimum of a 3.8 to be considered. I believe they pick around 15 to be interviewed. But we won’t know until spring

Has anyone heard anything from AU about FDDS?

nothing here. it’s making me a little nervous

Nothing here either

from what I know, in the past, they notified those who did not make it to the second round around late feb

nothing here yet either.

Nothing here either.

I received an email asking me to submit a video application. I am not sure if that means that I am a finalist or that there will be other steps??? But this is the only update I have seen. Has anyone else received this notification? Does anyone know when we will be notified of receiving the actual scholarship or not?

I haven’t gotten anything. I assume that that means you’re on to the next round!

@successfulbw2020 I also received that email but I’m not sure what happens next.

We just found out today that our daughter won FDDS. For future parents the process is application, video submission, additional questions, skype interview (in person if university isn’t shutdown) and formal call from the university. Her stats-4.0 unweighted and 4.3 weighted, numerous national and local awards and honors, strong SAT’s, EC’s and Rec’s and does not qualify for financial aid. I would recommend for families not rich enough to pay 70K but not low-income enough to be Pell grant eligible, I would encourage you to apply for this scholarship. I hope this is helpful.

I still haven’t heard back, have any of you guys?
