American University of Paris

I REALLY want to go to this school for global communications. But one thing holding me back is the cost and is it worth it? I've read some things from people who said that they knew people who attended AUP that were not rich..is this true? Any pro's and con's of the school, internships/careers offered, life in Paris, etc??

From a Brit/ EU perspective, it’s not a French university. It’s very much a small American college that happens to be in France and that attracts students from all over. As with any group of expats in one location, its so much easier to spend most/all your time with them rather than mix with locals and work on the language.

Don’t get me wrong. I see the attraction of the place and the marketing. I had a good look at it myself a good few years ago. Even if you get some aid, Paris is one of the most expensive cities in the world.

IMHO, and I’m sure some will disagree, but I think you have 3 better options:

If your French skills are up to it, I’d go to a regular French university and try and get internships with American companies over there.

Go to a decent US college with good Aid and go to Paris for a study abroad year/semester.

If your French is weak to non-existant:

Go to college in one of the US’s major media/business hubs (for the sake of internship access) as above and again go and do study abroad where somewhere like AUP might actually be right up your street in allowing you to experience Paris without having to have the language skills.
