Hi, it would be really helpful for me to know what people’s stats were when they go into American University? Please specify if you applied early decision, early action or regular. I’m especially interested to know people who got in with low stats/gpa and what they did. Thanks!
I’m going to AU next year and got in regular decision with a 3.3 gpa and 1360 sat, so lower end for grades and higher end for test scores. I would really recommend doing a regional interview in the fall. My interview went really well and I ended up building a nice relationship with the woman that interviewed me, which I think largely contributed to my acceptance. The regional admission representative, so the same person that would be interviewing you, is the first person to look over your application and decide whether or not to pass it on to the larger board in charge of admission.
I also think that it’s really important that you present leadership qualities throughout your application. I was the president of the debate team at my high school and an Anne’s Leader, one of the kids selected by my school’s president to lead activities with the underclassmen. I went to a relatively small private school in NYC so it was pretty easy for me to stand out to teachers and get really great recommendations but if you go to a larger school it may be difficult to get the same kinds of recommendations that I did. I would suggest building relationships with your teachers now so that they are able to write great recommendations that are supper personalized and specific when the time comes that you need them.
I hope this helps, good luck!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate your response
Bumping this, as my son is VERY interested in attending AU, and we are both wondering the same as the OP.
