American University vs Penn State University Park

I wanna study Public Policy/Government/Political Science, but i wanna make sure that I have a great experience. What is the perception of each school and what do you all recommend?

American is great for those areas, of course, and its location in DC is ideal for that kind of study. I don’t know anything about the social/campus life at American, though. 18-22-year-old generally know how to have fun wherever they are, and DC has lots of other universities and colleges in the area that you can potentially have fun at.

Penn State has a big social/party life culture. State College is not the best place for internships, but you can always go away over the summers to do internships and/or move to DC later. Penn State also has an enormous alumni network, which could be useful later.

What do costs look like? And what kind of “experience” are you looking for?

I think AU will be better for your intended field. I cant comment on the AU campus itself, but its location in the DC neighborhood is nice. I like NW, especially near Friendship Heights.

I guess with expierence I just wanted like school spirit and lots of activites.
I know american had An amazing campus in a Nice area and I’ve been impressed also with penn state.
But PSU seems to have much more school spirit just not as good of a location

And costs. American is about 58K and Penn State about 44K so either is gonna be expensive.

From my tertiary observations, I think PSU has more school spirit and hoopla concerning athletics. Youll have to visit the schools and gauge that yourself though.

Would the 44k or 58k come from your parents’ budget out of pocket?
Will you need to take on loans?
