I've heard that GWU students as a whole are a lot more... preppy and they party a lot more than students in American. I'm really laid back and I'd rather be in sweats and comfy jeans than dresses and heels.

I've heard that GWU dorms are infinitely better and are gorgeous. I have a friend who goes to American and her room is TINY.

I've heard that GWU has more of an urban feel than American (I have no opinion on this).

I think that I'll like American's overall atmosphere more, BUT in GWU, I have it all planned out: Human Services major with a Peace Studies minor... maybe some electives in Japanese and Public Policy. When I look at American, I don't see a major that jumps out at me as much as Human Services (plus Peace Studies!) does.

I got accepted to both, got into the Honors Program of both, and both gave me roughly the same amount of money.

Which should I go to???

Oops, I forgot to mention:
GWU’s fin aid package contains 3 loans whereas American contains 4.

There are tons of threads on GWU vs AU – you should search and you’ll find plenty of discussion.

They have two ENTIRELY different campus feels. Which one is better will be personal preference. GWU is highly urban, doesn’t feel like a college campus at all (except for the tiny Mt Vernon campus, which is 15 min away by bus). American has more of traditional campus feel, but isn’t so close to where the action is in DC. If you can’t visit, I’d spend some time poking around the websites to see the visual differences. Good luck to you.

[FinAid | Calculators | Advanced Award Letter Comparison Tool](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid) will help you sort out the financials a bit more. You need to figure out whether there is a big difference for you. Remember that loans have to be paid back, so do determine which place is actually offering you a lower price, and discuss the money business with your parents.

American University is a dry campus. Need I say more? :D
