American wanting to go to University of Oslo

I am interested in studying in Norway. However, for the list of documents I have to send in, they say that I need 3 AP tests with a score of at least 3. I don’t have any AP tests with that score. However, when I contacted them, they said they don’t know about that part of the admission.

So, are there any Americans who studied here, and what did you send in to get in (Test scores, GPA, etc)?

The University follows the [Norwegian rules](The GSU-list | Nokut) for qualification, which for US students is a high school diploma + 1 year of academic courses at university or high school diploma + 3 APs. These would probably need to be in subjects related to the course/type of course that you are applying to study (for example, if you are applying to study chemistry, you would need Calc BC and chemistry, and the 3rd should be another science).

These rules are set by the state, so any given person at the university might not be familiar with them (there are not a ton of US students looking to study in Norwegian- although UO offers a lot of Masters degrees in English, afaik all their undergrad is taught in Norwegian). This is typical of European universities (actually 3 APs with a score of 3 is a pretty low requirement). GPA won’t be a factor.

If you don’t have APs you could ask them if they would accept 3 SAT subject tests in relevant subjects- I wouldn’t be optimistic as the policy is set at government level, but you never know. I do know that Norway doesn’t do ‘conditional’ offers the way that the UK does- you have to have completed all your testing before you apply.

To add a little bit of context, the high school curriculum in Norway is much more standardized than the high school curriculum in the US. For example, all high school students would be required to take pre-calculus, and students who want to qualify for entrance into science majors are also required to take calculus in high school.

University majors are structured to assume this background. For example, you won’t find a pre-calculus course at a university in Norway. The admission requirements are put in place to assure that foreign students have the academic background necessary to succeed.
