American's Werid (Grade) Ranking System!?

lol can you show me the proof then? and what exactly do you mean by "national exam"? do you mean competition? because if you do, there should be proofs on the internet showing that students from your school indeed were in the top 99th percentile on the exams.

canadian - i never said UCC is the best in canada...i said it is historically recognized as the most prestigous prep school in the nation...and it is.

obviously we will never know the real answer because each school has its own strengths and weaknesses. I was being a little argumentative because Canadian_'s attitude of superiority.

Aldis Sung.. go look him up.

um...can you tell me what exactly is so impressive about Aldis Sung that he can be a proof of your school being best in Canada?

cuz from what I've gotten from googling his name, his achievements aren't impressive at all. Group 5 score in Cayley...wow I mean thats so hard to get.

buddy.. u wanna really see what school is good? a good SCHOOL is a OVERALL school which includes ATHLETICS, ACADEMICS, ARTS and CITIZENSHIP. Your school doesnt have even over 20 sports teams, u dont have a good drama program nor is ur cs hour program impressive. THE END OF DISCUSSION.

I am annoyed at the fact that you belittle other schools to make your school seem better than them. (your comment about UCC being a clear example). I've already said that St. Andrew's is a good school, just not the best. To end this stupidity, I'll present my final argument.

You say that your last comment was the end of discussion. Well, wasn't the topic of this so-called "discussion" (which wasn't even one because basically you completely evaded all my opinions and talked your own over and over again) about St. Andrew's being the best school in Canada? You failed to address any of the evidence that I brought up PROVING that St. Andrew's isn't even near the top in Canada. You therefore lost miserably in supporting your stance about the topic of the discussion. A discussion ends when the problem of the topic is resolved, buddy. Your last post didn't even mention the topic of the problem, while this one clearly sums it up. St. Andrew's isn't even near the top in Canada, so you should stop abasing other schools just to make yours seem better. END OF DISCUSSION.

Reply how much ever you want to my post. I've finally come to a conclusion you are unworthy of discussion because you clearly don't even understand the main reason behind discussion: considering other people's opinions and arguments. Too bad you lost.

it is the best school in canada. thanks. THE END>

UCC is the most prestigious school in Canada. No competition there. UCC has the strongest group of allumni (The Thompson's, the Weston's, the Eaton's, the Roger's etc. Many of Canada's wealthiest and most powerful families went to UCC) it is not only the most well known school in Canada and but also the oldest (1829). Ranks near the top in Canada's prestigious math, chemistry, bio contests unlike SAC, which never seems to show its name on the list. It also sends most graduates each year to Ivy League + prestigious American colleges from Canada in addition to sending several students a year to Oxford, Cambridge and London School of Economics.

In Atheletics, who beat SAC in this year's CISAA Football? who beat SAC in this year's CISAA Rugby? who beat SAC in this year's CISAA Soccer?

If you want a comprehensive ranking of Canadian prep schools, go to PrepReview.com. SAC's not even number two.

Hah! The Westons

PrepReview.com doesnt even say! post the exact link.

Pfff... How many CISSA Champs teams do you guys have? football won 3 years in a row.. and basketball twice.. volleyball like 4 times. etc.

hi, i just joined, and i do agree that they need standardized scoring for gpa's

as to the best high school in canada
ill have to go with ucc > sac

ucc and uts are just well rounded,
and if you're ranking it by contests, im suprised my school Don mills beat out all of yours by a lot, but then again we have a gifted program that attracts some really smart people, esp in math and sciences

SIN CONTEST 2005
First Place: Don Mills Collegiate, North York, ON

math
Don Mills Coll. Inst. 171 (6th)

chemistry, we had the 1st place winner this year, and 2003

bio: Don Mills Collegiate Institute, Don Mills, ON (9th)

but then again, those people are smart, i think we've had multiple International olympiad members in physics, chem and math each year for the past 4-5 years now, ever since they moved the program to this school

I agree, schools like Don Mills and Pushkin are excellent math/science schools. They rank very high on national contests. Nevertheless, UCC is the only private boarding school that ranks very high on those contests-occaisionally beating even schools like Don Mills.

yeah UCC def has the best rep...SAC and many of hte ppl that go there are so pretentious...they really wanna shove their "quality" down your throat and make you buy into their garbage. I chose to go to my district's public school over SAC (which really doesnt mean anything significant, only that i was unimpressed with the school...my american prep school was much better).

but don't any of you get curious if what you got (for example if you got an B) is 80 or 85 or 81...?

and also, what's the - and + for? (A-, B-...)

Okay. "Canadian_" you may represent your school a little better if you didn't display the need to constantly reaffirm its quality by belittling other prestigious prep schools. No one looks good doing that. But the thing is: if you realllly want to play that game, at least come from the school that is actually culturally recognized as the most prestigious in Canada (Upper Canada College). Then you'll just come across as a snob, not a stupid snob.

UCC isn't just academically and athletically incredible, but the alumni and parent community would essentially account for the entire Canadian Establishment. UCC Old Boys run this country. That may be the case literally too, if Michael Ignatieff, UCC alum, becomes Prime Minister in a few years, (taking over from interim-Liberal leader, Bill Graham, UCC alum).

In terms of quality, UCC is rich enough and good enough to be one of the best educational institutions pre-university in the country, and the gratuate matriculation at universities accounts for this (where did you get that "89%" figure? Last year, only one person didn't go to university, and that's because he took a year off to travel. Everyone else? Top universities in the world and top programs in Canada. No other school in Canada compares), as does their job placement when they get out into the workforce, (Bay Street is run by UCC alums, and a number go to Wall Street as well. UCC boys are also successful politicians and writers and artists). UCC Boys: 22 Rhodes Scholars and 38 recipients of the Order of Canada.

But I won't make the bold claim that it is the best in Canada, (even if it might win the "presitge" test). And I won't tear other school's down, like SAC (a great school) to prove a point.

My school's is like this:

A: 93-100
B: 85-92
C: 75-84
D: 70-74
F: 69 and below

Americans go to better Universities with our 'inflated' grades, so I guess it sucks for you canadians.

wow, in canada 100-80 is A? wow you guys are lucky... then i would have just swung by school with a 80 average..dam you guys are lucky
