I saw my state (Virginia) listed as #1 overall.

Yet we have someone running for Governor here who claims otherwise. Sigh…

One of the reasons my old state of Alaska finished last for business was because the governor decimated the University of Alaska budget. The Fairbanks campus I attended 40 years ago has fewer students now than it did then.

I remember Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin tried to do the same thing to UW. I believe he left office before he could achieve what he wanted. I still cringe when I think about what he said–that UW, a world-class university, only had to be “good enough” for the citizens of WI. That really angered me—it’s saying “hey, you can’t afford a private university, here’s an OK but not great public university for ya!”
