General Comments:

Just got a mail. Results will be out later in the day on Friday.

Anyone know how many apps were sent in this year?

Hey there, did your email say this Friday the 8th?

Yes it did @Joeee22
I’m guessing they’ll be released around 4-5 pm ET on Friday, going by the past trends.

How do all of you plan on dealing with 21 hours from now?

with the decision or the wait till the decision serivitus

I’m pretty sure I’ll be rejected/deferred, but still drowning in anxiety.

Good luck to everyone today! Whatever your admission decision maybe, just remember how lucky you are to have the opportunity to seek a higher education. Many people around the world never have the opportunity to have a higher education or even apply to a college. It is truly a privilege to have the luxury of applying to schools as great as Amherst College!

Anyone know if there’s an official facebook group yet?

Decisions might be out anytime now. Do post if you get an update.

THERES A STATUS UPDATE

Summer Activities: Part-time work, research,
Essays (rating 1-10, details): 9/10, Common App. 10/10 supplement. I started drafting them in the summer, received great feedback from my English teachers, and revised. I worked hard on them for months and was happy with the final product.
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): All 10s. I know my teachers well, and I work very hard. I chose two teachers who nominated me for awards I won. They were happy to write detailed letters for me. My counselor knows me well, respects my commitment, leadership, and work ethic, and I believe she wrote a strong letter for me. After I called my parents, she was the first one I ran to see when I got the news.

Teacher Rec #1: 10/10
Teacher Rec #2: 10/10
Counselor Rec:10/10
Additional Rec: English teacher who mentored me for 4 years, 10/10

Other: First quarter grades were really strong. I had two 99%, A+ in Spanish and English, a 98, and two 95s.

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: English
State (if domestic applicant): California
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public
Income Bracket: middle class. Not rich and not poor

Reflection: I’m an independent learner and I think that showed in my classes chosen. My teachers also say that about me, that I’m willing to step outside of popular opinion and they always applaud me for that leadership in class. Given Amherst is an open curriculum school and values independence, I think that may have helped me.

Strengths: Curiosity, varied classes, strong letters of rec and essays
Weaknesses: Freshman year grades. High achievement didn’t click for me right away.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I’m truly curious and love learning for learning sake. I love so many different subjects – foreign language, English, writing, history, and even math and science. I’m truly curious about so many topics and ideas and love to learn. I think that came through.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Don’t know yet because Amherst was my EDI school. I applied to two other schools early action and one other regular decision and had 4 in my plan just in case. I’m happy to withdraw my applications and can’t wait to arrive. I feel so lucky to be going to Amherst and can’t wait to meet professors, have great chats outside of class with them and other students.

General Comments: I was so anxious from the moment I submitted, but I also expected to I would land on my feet if I wasn’t admitted. I hope those who were not admitted know that there’s a great college out there for you and being denied doesn’t mean you couldn’t have succeeded at Amherst. There’s a college out there that will see your incredible gifts and talents and will be so excited to have you. Keep your head up and keep believing in yourself!

i got deferred

i got deferred

Congrats to those who got accepted! We are excited to have you. To those who got deferred, do not fret. I was deferred from a different NESCAC, and ended up getting in at Amherst, so you still have a decent chance of getting into an equally good school. To those who got rejected, it may be good to rethink your college list, and have a realistic mindset as to what your target/reach/safety schools are.

My son got in. Here is his info. He lives in a major midwest city attends a private HS with a good reputation. Weighted GPA 3.9. Taking AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP English, Honors Spanish IV. ACT score 33 (Reading 35, English 35, Science 35, Math 26). 2 years JV Lacrosse, 2 years Track JV and Varsity. Works part time at Target 20 hours a week. Major activity is martial arts for over 10 years 1st degree black belt Taekwondo, 2nd degree black belt Karate. Unsure of what his 2 teacher recommendations said 1 extra recommendation from current US National Karate team member ranked #1 who has been his instructor for 7 years.

@CorryBernstein why is that so? A sizable number of those who were rejected have decent stats and ecs and all. Not getting into Amherst does not mean that they cannot get into other elite schools.
