Applications to Amherst have skyrocket throughout this past admissions cycle, according to the Amherst Student Newspaper, up to 6,400 from the 5,489 they received last year. 128 candidates were admitted during ED, 6,260 are applying RD (including deferred), and if the yield holds from last year, they should admit around 1,000 additional candidates during the Regular round. Dividing the number of spaces by the number of applicants for RD, the acceptance rate should stand at about 16% for this round.

Other interesting tidbits:
ED acceptes had average verbal scores of 714, math of 719.
College is trying to increase socioeconomic, racial diversity on campus, in part through more aggessive recruiting of admitted students.

This year was the best year to do ED by far because no one expected this type of surge. My bets are that it will happen again next year. 17% though, that's amazing!

How is the acceptance rate 16%? Dartmouth increased about 8% and they're expecting an acceptance rate of 15%. Both Amherest and Dartmouth had 18% last year, so I think Amherst's would be lower than 16%.

just for RD; i was talking about overall acceptance rate. and slipper, i believe dartmouth fills more with ED so their yields should be about the same also.

I humbly question your 17%... are you sure it's 17%? Looking at this year's data, 6527 people applied (6260 RD + 267 ED), and last year, 5489 applied. That increase is about 20.7%, which is even nicer for Amherst.
