Well, i never thought I would get into that school, and i had my heart set on Chicago already, but now i am facing a dillema...is Amherst better for academics. I know Im going into math, but I don't want to concentrate that much in college....WHat should I do?

i honestly don't know whose math department is better, just because i haven't researched it or taken any interest.

In terms of overall reputation amherst is as good as ivies and sometimes even better than some.

The experience of an LAC and a major national university is completely different and very difficult to compare side by side - it depends on which type of school you feel more comfortable at.

Well how are they so different what are pros and cons?

Did you not RESEARCH these two schools before applying to them?

Not really, after I got rejected ED from Columbia, I paniked and appied to 19 schools and I am pretty happy with the results, but cannot decide on Amherst Chicago affair

Maybe you should've thought this through better.

well let's not cry over spilled milk

Yeah. I hardly think that getting accepted at two of the best schools in the country -- Chicago and Amherst -- is spilled milk!

I'd say that you did pretty darn well with your applications!

I'm sorry, Dendankin, I know you are only about 18, but I had to giggle, when I read about the panic attack.

You need to research these 2 schools. If Columbia was your dream school, then on paper, Chicago is more like Columbia than Amherst. YOu will get a wonderful education at either - every bit as good as what you would get at Columbia. Any chance you could visit, especially Amherst since it is the odd man out?

Chicago vs. Amherst.

Both great schools - but both offer very different experiences. Rural vs. City. Research University vs. LAC. Midwest vs. New England. Large vs. Small. It's hard to find two more different undergrad institutions.

How serious are you about math and leveraging that experiene towards a future career? If it's high on your list, than I'd say go to Chicago.
