Amherst College 2021 RD Discussion Thread

@Jehochman Just curious, how do you know they’re accepting 12%? That’s so few! Williams had 14.5% so I assumed Amherst would have 14% (just like past few years)… do you mean 12% from only RD? That’s scary!!

@golddigger9 @Diego0115 Me too, an international (and especially Chinese for whom the situation is even bleaker) asking for tons of aid. I was accepted by UChicago through EA (didn’t apply for aid) but would have some difficulty affording it. But of all the school I asked aid from in RD, I have recieved 5 rej and 2 wl, from Williams to Grinnell. Only Colgate accepted me with 57k/year and an AMS distinction. The remaining are essentially need-blind schools (Amherst included) which are already extremely selective to begin with.

Frankly if I got in none of the remaining I would lean heavily toward Colgate.

Decisions are up- got waitlisted.

@hungrihippo I took the figures from last year’s ED and total applicants, and calculated the RD acceptance rate. I’m assuming this year is as competitive as last year, if not more so. Most schools, with the exception of Georgetown, have higher early acceptance rates than regular acceptance rates, which means that the regular acceptance rates are necessarily lower than the published overall rate. At schools like Yale, Harvard and Stanford, the RD acceptance rate is only 3-4%, not the 5-6% overall rate. The published figures are overly-optimistic.

Williams only accepted 12% of regular applicants (at most) by my calculation.

oh my god i got in

The update was on my portal

Rejected…again :frowning:

OMG I GOT INTO AMHERST HOLYYY

Rejected lol

Rejected, congrats to all

Congrats on those why got in! <:-P

Waitlist. Better than a rejection, tbh

Well, in my defense, 472 out of 9200 is indeed a very low acceptance rate. Hahaha, anyway, congrats to you who got in.

Rejected! Congratulations to the lucky 472 that go!!! It’s a great school.

Waitlisted!

9200 applications means the acceptance rate is around 12.5% this year (class size is 472, and they admit in total around 1150 students). Congratulations to everyone who got in.

Rejected!

Waitlist
