Amherst College 2021 RD Discussion Thread

Does anyone know the chance of getting in after being deferred ED?

33 act, 3.8/4 UW gpa, 8 APs and a lot of ec’s. My supplement was very good as well but my grades sort of dipped in junior year so I hope my essays, recs and EC’s could pick up the slack

1530/2210 SAT, 3.95/~4.63 GPA, 5s on all AP exams. Deferred ED so we’ll see.

@sjmain, I’ve seen your name on a lot of the same threads I read. I’m sure something will come back positive - you definitely have interest, which is important. Chin up!

International, and a current college freshman in Taiwan.
1500 SAT, lots of EC’s and a few spikes.
School doesn’t calculate GPA but my grades suck. Best high school in Taiwan though.
Not expecting anything tbh

Alrighttt after being rejected from Williams, here I am!

34 ACT + 35 Writing, all AP’s, all A’s and A+'s, compete at national level for soccer team, two sport varsity athlete, captain, recognized distinguished oil painter, classical pianist, multiple other leadership positions in the health/medical fields.

All these selective schools are crapshoots. Amherst is my dream and I hope my double legacy helps put me over the edge. But who knows. Expecting the worst, hoping for the best.

Rejected from Bowdoin so I don’t think I have much of a chance here but whatever I paid my application fee and I expect the worst but hope for the best

International 1520 SAT, 790 Math 2, 750 German SatIIs, 4.0 UW GPA from an exchange program in the US and solid grades in Poland, predicted 43/45 in the IB Diploma.
Accepted Bowdoin, Rejected Williams, I really don’t know what to think anymore, my biggest choices are Ivys but as I don’t know if I’m competetive for them, Amherst would be a dream come true as well

SAT 1560
ACT 35
MATH 1 800
MATH 2 780
CHEM 800
Accepted… Pomona, Swarthmore, Northwestern, WashU, U of Rochester.
Rejected… Middlebury, Grinnel, Uchicago (I didn’t expect to get in anyway. Healthy respect for that school)

Has anyone tried the Financial Aid Admissions trick yet?

@GenKlos what is that?

@nillupa Sign into your MyAmherst profile. Click “Customise MyAmherst”. Drag in the MyFinancialAid Widget into your profile. Click it. What do you see?

@GenKlos It basically gives a link to NetPartner and my Financial Aid page there shows Current Award Year- 2017/2018. The rest is pretty generic.

@GenKlos You mean as in the portal? Where do you log into your MY Amherst? Isn’t that only for accepted students?

@sou1998 Yeah thats what I’m getting as well. I’m not sure if it’s too early for it, or if they have fixed it, but last year students who did this on the day of admissions got a response either saying “No Financial Aid Award Messages” or “Award Status: Completed” with the latter getting in.

@AllyssXx Just go onto the Amherst website and log in at the top right. You need to use your username though not your email address.

@GenKlos Can’t even find a login button, not even with Crtl+F.

Beginning good

How do u know what your username is?

@AllyssXx Haha. Go on the amherst college main webpage, and click on the little wrench at the top right.

@GenKlos Sends me to the netpartner. Hmmpff.

@nillupa It’s the one from your netpartner.
