I am applying for the fall 2012 semester. I am currently a CC student, but I did attend a 4-yr liberal arts college for one semester. The college was not the right fit for me, and my family was experiencing financial issues.

I have a 3.94 GPA. I've completed the following courses at my CC: Art History I, Psychology, Sociology, General Biology I, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Personality Psychology, Racial & Ethnic Diversity, US History II, Western Civilization I, Concepts of Chemistry, Intro to Biology, English 102, Intermediate Algebra. I have only received 2 A-s, the rest are As. The courses I am currently taking are General Biology II, Film & Literature, Latin I, and Calculus I.

My GPA at the LAC I attended was a 3.6, and I took 4 classes. I received a B+ in two classes.

My high school GPA was a 3.6, and I took 8 honors courses. I don't plan to send my atrocious SAT scores.

I am the VP of the Biology Club. I have also helped to create a General Studies Club. We haven't elected officers for the club yet, but I expect to be elected president. I volunteer at an after-school program in an underserved school 8 hours/week. I volunteer for the Special Olympics every May for 9 hours. I volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity ReStore every summer. I also work as a remedial math tutor at my college.

I transferred to my CC in the spring 2011. Before fall 2011, I completed 29 institutional credits. My CC only invites students to join PTK if they have completed 30 institutional credits by the fall. I am worried that because I am not a member of an honors society it will hurt my chances of getting in. I also worry that my 3.6 at my LAC will hurt my chances as well. Furthermore, what does Amherst look for in a student?

My Biology and History professors have written my recommendations.

If it matters or helps, I am the daughter of Jamaican immigrants, and I'm Black.
