And what is your ethnic background?

i sent an email to Amherst admissions office. not sure whether they’ll reply honestly…

How did Amherst’s acceptance rate go down? Didn’t they receive almost 8% fewer applications?

That’s exactly what I was wondering… I’m assuming more people will come off the wait list this year or something.

Did it go down? O.O I’m guessing they’re using the WL a lot this year then

I just got an acceptance email from Amherst! I am 4 for 4 on the prestigious LACs (Amherst, Bowdoin, Carleton, and Swarthmore!). It seemed, based on the language of the email, the semi-early write was sent as a diversity recruitment tool. Here is the what they said:

“Amherst’s Diversity Recruitment Program provides this special funding to those admitted students who we believe have the potential to contribute to the cultural and/or socioeconomic diversity of Amherst.”

I am Asian btw, if the information so helps.

Congratulations to those accepted thus far!

Eurgh, wouldn’t it be great to be accepted…I’d love to have any college fly me out to go to some kind of event.

Yup! I’m in GA. ∩__∩

11.5 % is the RD rate only. It doesn’t include ED or WL admits.

I just got an acceptance email!! Also from the “diversity dean.” Soooo happy =) Just so everyone knows, the email says that official letters will be sent out and the ACData website will be updated on March 29th with results. Good luck!

Just got my email last night as well! I’m completely and totally shocked- Amherst was one of my reach schools. I’m sad I can’t take advantage of the free Open House, but getting to know just a little bit earlier was an amazing perk!

Forgot to add my stats!

Admitted

2110 SAT composite (740 CR 620 M 750 W)
30 ACT composite.
23 out of 434 students.
National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar
All IB classes
100.52 weighted GPA

Crap. I see other Asians have gotten this. Does this mean that if I’m Asian and I didn’t get that email that I was rejected/waitlisted? :(

No! Of course not! I think it was just a select group of URM’s that got it. You have nothing to worry about, official decisions aren’t announced until the 29th!

uh i thought Asians weren’t considered URMs. :/

It depends on what circles. I went to 3 separate diversity recruitment open houses, all expenses paid, though I’m East Asian.

I heard or read somewhere that Asians are URMs at a lot of liberal arts colleges

Asians are definitely not URMs (had this confirmed at Williams info session), but that doesn’t mean they don’t contribute to the diversity of a school either. And it’s not like every African American or Hispanic applicant that was accepted was invited to this Diversity Recruitment program.

Wow, that was a lot of double negatives and passive voice. Welp.

My D got an early acceptance letter mentioning academic excellence. She is a typical white middle class student.
