Amherst College Class of 2017 Official Thread

Exactly my attitude, Oscarlany.

Now I look at each admissions decision with excitement rather than desperation.

The emails that went out today–were they early writes or URMs or just a first wave of decisions?

^I’m not really sure. I’m black but I’m a Canadian citizen and I go under the “nonresident alien/international” category rather than the “black/african-american” category. So I guess I’m a minority but I’m not an official URM.

I think they were just to URM’s and maybe international students. I’m black and was just accepted. I’m so excited. I was rejected from DIVOH and thought I had NO chance so this is such an awesome surprise. I was at dinner when I got the email and I screamed. Also if it’s of interest to anyone or if people don’t already know, the RD acceptance rate for this year was 11.9%.

Actually the email said the acceptance rate was 11.5%!

Sorry, I guess I was a little frazzled when I read the email lol. karatekid666 is correct. The acceptance rate was definitely 11.5%. 11.9% was last year’s.

hmm nothing on my portal… kinda strange. don’t really know what to expect. seems like a lot of surprises, but i got into bowdoin which was my top school so that lightens the weight a bit! :D

there’s nothing on my portal either. I just got the e-mail

What does the email say?

Got the email as well. Anyone going?

I’ll know in about a week or two. March 28th is pretty much going to determine the next 4 years of my life.

Are the letters just for urm’s and internationals?

Well, my letter mentioned socioeconomic diversity so it could be for poor kids as well. I’m pretty poor myself. ^▁^

Just accepted today:

Dear _____,

Congratulations on your admission to Amherst College! In a year when we received more than 7,900 applications from an extremely talented group of students from around the world, we are pleased to inform you that you are among the 11.5 percent of our regular decision candidates being invited to join our Class of 2017!

We are sending this email in advance of your official written notification of admission, because we hope that you will take advantage of our offer to fund your travel to our Overnight Open House for admitted students.

Amherst’s Diversity Recruitment Program provides this special funding to those admitted students who we believe have the potential to contribute to the cultural and/or socioeconomic diversity of Amherst. If you choose to attend the Overnight Open House, our office will purchase a round-trip airline ticket, bus ticket or train ticket for you and arrange for your transportation to campus. Once on campus, Amherst will provide all meals, housing, and programming. While formal programming for the Overnight Open House is scheduled only for Sunday, April 14 and Monday, April 15, students whose attendance is being funded through the Diversity Recruitment Program are expected to travel to campus on Saturday, April 13 (so that you can be ready for the early morning events on Sunday) and to remain for the full program. You may expect to depart campus for your return trip home sometime in the late morning or early afternoon on Monday, April 15.

If you are interested in having our Diversity Recruitment Program arrange and fund your travel to the Overnight Open House, you must complete and submit online the Travel-Funded Admitted Student Open House Registration 2013. Once you have submitted that online registration form, you will be directed to another webpage, where you must download and print out the required “Visitor Policy and Authorization Form.” That form must be signed by your parent or guardian and returned to the Amherst Admission Office either by fax at ________ or by email at __________. To guarantee travel funding for your trip, we must receive both your online registration form and your signed Authorization Form no later than 12:00 pm (EST) on Friday, March 29. If you do not submit both forms by the March 29 deadline, you may still attend the Overnight Open House, but the College will not provide funding for your travel expenses.

Our official online notification of your admission will be available through your ACData account late in the afternoon on Friday, March 29, 2013. Details about your admission and the May 1 response date will be included in that online notification, as well as in a packet of material mailed to you on the same date. Notification of your Amherst financial aid award will be available on-line through your Net Partner account on Friday, March 29; hard-copy financial aid notification letters will also be mailed on that day. In the meantime, please take advantage of our website www.amherst.edu to find more information about Amherst College.

If you have any questions regarding this email or travel to the Amherst campus, please contact the Office of Admission at _______ or _________.

Once again, congratulations on your admission to Amherst College! We look forward to hearing from you, with hopes of congratulating you in person on campus in April.

Sincerely,

I have received no email and there is nothing in my portal, I am international though. Interesting…

Very interesting…

Seeing that people who received the email are all admitted, it seems like that they were only sent to international applicants who were admitted…
I’m devastated…:frowning: I’m an international too but haven’t received any emails yet…

^I’m an international and I haven’t received anything. Plus I think alexissss is a domestic applicant.

Yeah, the probably send decisions early to those domestic applicants who would visit their open house day or something, the website says wednesday so they would not release ALL decisions before that date

I got the email from the diversity recruitment program (i assume because i’m from a low income family). accepted w/ 2070 SAT, 34 ACT, and 3.98 GPA
