Last week I applied ED to Amherst College and I was just wondering about what you guys think my chances are.

I go to a small college prep high school, and I get mostly As with some Bs. I applied with my ACTs. My highest composite is a 31, however, Amherst superscores and my superscored composite is a 33. I have been involved in my school's medical club for all 4 years of high school, and I was one of the founding members of the club. I'm also a member of my school's ecology club. I was inducted into the National Honor Society as a senior (my school only inducts seniors).

I've been on 2 international trips with my school. I went to China for two weeks doing community service, and I also went to Ecuador doing scientific research in the Ecuadorian rainforest swabbing dart frogs for a fungal infection.

I row for my school's crew team. I was the stroke seat of my school's woman's varsity 1st boat (the fastest boat) this past fall.

I currently work 3 days a week after school aiding and helping the therapists of a 7-year-old girl who has autism. I also fairly regularly work with another 8-year-old boy who has autism. The past two years I have been his personal aid at the summer camp he attends.

I've worked as a classroom aide all throughout my summers at an environmental summer camp for kids ages pre-k-10th grade. This is the same camp I attended every summer from kindergarten-10th grade, when I aged out and became a classroom aide.

Last summer I attended Neuroscience Camp at Northwestern College in Iowa. I was one of 11 students to be admitted into the program nationally, and it was research focused as well as provided us with college-level lectures in neuroscience.

I'm very interested in pursuing neuroscience research, and I'll be majoring in neuroscience with plans to go to grad school and receive my Ph-d. I wrote fantastic college essays that reflect how unique and diverse of an individual I am, from being proficient in chinese to working at my summer camp to catching water snakes at my lake house in Northern Ontario to aiding kids with autism and finally to wanting to go into research.

I'm also a first-generation college student, which I know Amherst College puts a lot of weight on. On top of this, I was legally adopted by my step father in February of 2013, and I changed my last name to his. Thank you!
