I am an international applicant, and I found out that applicants to Amherst must file the “Amherst College Supplement to the Common Application”. On Amherst’s website, there is no link to this supplement. Are they referring to the additional essay or to this form (https://www.amherst.edu/media/view/207231/original/FirstYear.) ?
From Amherst’s website:
"Required Application Materials First-year applicants must submit the following materials by the appropriate deadline for Early Decision (November 15) or Regular Decision (January 1):
Common Application (on-line submission only)
**Amherst College Supplement to the Common Application **
→ Learn about our options for the writing supplement."
You have to fill in the supplement, but I believe you do this THROUGH the common app process online and not via the mail (the form in the link seems designed for mailing). Isn’t there a link on the common app that takes you the Amherst supplement page? Have you submitted the Common App for Amherst? You might find that after submitting it, the option to access the supplement for Amherst is available. This is how I remember it from a year ago when my daughter applied.
No, currently there is no link on the commonapp that takes me to that form or anything similar. I have the questions and the Amherst writing supplement, as for any other college.
Yeah, it might be available after submitting the app, it’s just that Amherst’s website states that it must be submitted by the Jan 1 deadline, so let’s say that I submit the app on Dec 31 (which I won’t, but still) I doubt the form will arrive by Jan 1 (if sent via mail). I emailed Amherst, but I doubt they will reply within few days.
When you have chosen Amherst as one of your schools to submit to (you don’t have to have yet submitted the common app), then clicking on the selected Amherst will take you to the Amherst supplemental app. This is true for any college that has a supplemental app.
Is the supplemental app the same thing as the writing supplement? I am getting a bit confused. The PDF linked in the original post does include the writing supplement, but it is supposed to be mailed in addition to the Common Application online. There is no link taking me to that supplement on the Common App.
