Amherst College Transfer essay supplement.

Hello guys, I am applying to Amherst College as a transfer student in the fall of 2015. Can anyone give me some ideas of how to write the Amherst college transfer essay supplement?
The essay is "Describe the life experiences, personal factors and notable challenges that have influenced you most as a student and a person."
I need an idea of how to write it, and the kind of things or experiences to talk about in the essay. It will also be great if anyone has a sample of such essay to help me write mine. Thank you.

I wrote about how education made me into the person I am today–how it motivates me, the opportunities it provides me with, and so on and so forth.

@polisci93 I wanted to talk about how teaching has influenced my life. Though I am applying for a computer science major. Do you think that it is a good idea to write about my teaching experience even though I plan to major in computer science?

@Bkay571‌ Amherst values intellectual curiosity, so speak about what interests you and how it has made you into the man you are today. By the way, what are your stats? What school are you applying from?

I am applying from Allen County Community College. This is my second semester and I am currently on a 4.0 GPA…
I also joined the student senate, part of the soccer team, and also part of Phi theta Kappa which is an honors society. I do not have any SAT or ACT since the school I am currently enrolled in did not require it.

I go to Borough of Manhattan Community College.
GPA: 3.966
Credits 68 after this semester
Did not submit SAT of ACT scores
Phi Theta Kappa Member

@Bkay571‌ Amherst recommends completing two years of community college before transferring. Just something to consider.

I am a little bit curious and worried. Amherst said it does not require the SAT or ACT but it will be helpful if you submit them. So I wanted to know if you got accepted without submitting the SAT/ACT or if you know anyone who have been accepted without these tests. Thank you.

@polisci93‌ Actually by next semester I will be done with three semester in my community college. Do I still have good chances.

@Bkay571‌ I never took either of the test, and therefore, I did not submit them. I applied as a transfer for the upcoming spring 2015 semester and I am anxiously awaiting the decision notification. However, I do recall reading a post on CC from an admitted transfer who did not take the tests. He was a veteran, I believe (if that’s of any help). Also, it is pointless to submit test scores unless you have great scores and are applying from a top school (most test takers with high scores go to top school). However, Amherst likes taking community college students, hence individuals who did not do so well in high school but started applying themselves academically later on.

Thanks a lot. This gives me some relieve

@Bkay571‌ Amherst is one of the most elite schools in the country, and is arguably on the same level as HYPS. The acceptance rate is beyond low. Last year around 475 transfers applies in the fall and only around 20 were accepted (around 5%). Only 10 transfers enrolled in the spring semester. So to be honest, no one has a good chance. I’m hoping that I get in, but I am not getting my hopes up.

@polisci93‌ hello, can u send me a copy of your transfer essay? The one that asks why you want to transfer. Or If not, can you give me a website of where I can find sample the transfer essays to help me write mine. I heard u need a strong essay, and your essay has to be like a story so I want to get samples to help me with mine. Thank you

@Bkay571‌ I do not have a copy of it on hand, but I basically explained that I am ready to take on the challenges present at a four-year institution. Talk about how community college was a stepping-stone that has prepared you well for what is to come at a more rigorous educational institution. I’m not sure what other schools you are applying to, but I mentioned my desire to attend a LAC specifically, since Amherst is the only private school I applied to.

Alright. I have a draft of my transfer essay here. Would you like to take a look at it and give me some feedback?

@Bkay571‌ Sure, PM it to me.

Alright I have sent it to you. It is just a draft. Hope to get your feedback. Thank you.

Hey! I recently been accepted as a spring transfer. If you have any questions just pm me :)
