@PioneerValleymum Amherst doesn’t rank their waitlisted applicants. Hope it works out for your daughter!
Did you guys pick fall 2017 and/or spring 2018 if you accepted your place on the WL?
I picked fall 2017 and spring 2018. I don’t have all that much of a preference. I could definitely find something to do during the fall if I can only be admitted in the spring.
I picked fall and spring as well, I accepted my spot on the waitlist on Monday. I honestly wouldn’t mind waiting for spring, it would give me more time to figure out housing at least.
My daughter (currently at Mt. Holyoke) picked both fall and spring. Still no word…and Wesleyan wants an answer by June 1st. Talk about stress! Has anyone heard anything from Amherst regarding the waitlist? They definitely do not rank.
I declined the waitlist offer - good luck you guys!! Hope you all hear the news you are hoping for.
@PioneerValleymum I haven’t heard anything yet either. Good luck to your daughter! It certainly is a stressful situation when it comes to deposits and waitlists.
@bradthegrad2019 Good luck to you too!
@lkhalil98 @PioneerValleymum I was told the earliest we might hear would be next week. I have until the 29th to enroll at Bryn Mawr so I’m hoping we hear something before then. But unfortunately, it’s all pretty vague and they couldn’t really give me a more specific timeline than “sometime after next week” when I called.
@gluttonousoyster Thanks for the information! I was expecting to hear back later than that so this is good news. Of course there’s no guarantee that we’ll hear back that soon, but I’ll cross my fingers that we do.
The waitlist letter also said something along the lines of “openings may become available before June” so hopefully as soon as the accepted transfers have all replied that means they’ll just start notifying people from the waitlist. I also asked about the possibility of spring admission when I called and they told me it’s all more or less on the same timeline. So hopefully within a couple weeks we’ll have our answers.
Any waitlisted students hear back yet?
I haven’t heard back yet. I think it’s more likely we’ll hear back next week.
Update: I called Amherst today, and the admissions representative said that they are still working on the freshman waitlist. It’ll take about two weeks until they get to the transfer waitlist.
@lkhalil98 Thanks for the info! I had just kind of assumed I probably wouldn’t hear anything and let myself go into full planning mode for Bryn Mawr, I’m already looking at apartments in Philly. Now I’m nervous all over again and wondering whether I should contact Amherst again. I called them back when we first got the decisions, and I sent them a letter and my final transcript from my CC, but I just got a summer internship a week ago that I obviously didn’t mention then…
But also, I’ve already told my landlord we’re not renewing our lease, which expires in 2 months, so finding a place all the way up there before August might not be so easy if I’m lucky enough to hear back.
@gluttonousoyster No problem! The anticipation was just killing me so I knew I had to call. I was very surprised to hear that they hadn’t even gotten to the transfer waitlist yet. I was planning my other options as well. Right now all I have is transferring to a state university or spending another year at CC and applying again next year. I already sent Amherst a letter of continued interest and updated grades, but I will probably send additional materials. I don’t think it would hurt for you to send another short letter mentioning your internship. As for your housing situation, I am not sure how to help, but I wish you the best of luck! Regardless of whatever happens, I’m sure you’ll be happy at either Bryn Mawr or Amherst
@lkhalil98 Thanks I’m a bit surprised by that also, I figured they would have at least started on the transfer list by now. This whole process is pretty tough, but it’s good that you have some options. I did 2 years at my CC and waited to transfer until after I had my associate’s degree, which wasn’t necessarily ideal, but I felt it was necessary given my particular circumstances. If you’re not crazy about the state university, it might not be a bad option to wait at least one more semester. Either way, I wish you luck as well, and hopefully Amherst will have some good news for both of us soon!
I received an email this morning from the Dean of Admission. Amherst won’t be accepting any transfer students from the waitlist for the Fall 2017 semester. In their words, “Confirmations of enrollment at Amherst for the coming semester are now finalized and all transfer student positions for Fall 2017 have been filled. Therefore, we will not be able to admit any additional candidates from our wait list.” It seems that the college is at full capacity, so I do not think they will be offering spots for the Spring 2018 semester. Nonetheless, I wish you all good luck in your future endeavors!
