Hi, I am now applying to Amherst College as a transfer student. Does anyone else also apply?
Haven’t seen any threads so I start one.
I am an international student, now in a four-year university on the east coast.
College GPA: 4.0
High school GPA: 3.6
Composite ACT score: 33, but only 24 on reading.
800 on SAT II Math level 2, physics, and chemistry.
Chance me for Amherst College! Please comment below:)
No one applies to Amherst College this year? Just comment so that we can share some info with each other:)
I’m surprised this thread isn’t super active!
I’m a CA community college student!
College GPA: 3.86
Highschool stats: Poor–had to work and provide for family (3.3 GPA; 1870/2400 SAT)
Strengths: Very involved on campus!
I’m not great at chancing anyone, but if you had great essays then I’m sure you have a good chance.
Didn’t apply to Amherst which I kind of regret (but I did to Williams >;) hahaha, much lower acceptance rate)
buuut, cheering you on @AllDogsAreGood ! You got this
@AGoodFloridian When did you apply to Williams? I also applied to Williams this year. Could you post your stats if you don’t mind :-*
@AGoodFloridian Oh my goodness, you really are everywhere, haha! I’m delighted to see you here. This isn’t the place to talk about JKC, but the foundation is alerting schools now, and I’m nearly positive you’re one of the winners. You absolutely deserve it–your positive energy has gotten many students through much of their anxiety this scholarship season.
@yypfalllaan What other schools did you apply to, if you don’t mind me asking? Have you been accepted to any yet? Good luck with your college endeavors!
Hi everybody! Checking in as a transfer applicant.
@AllDogsAreGood hahahah, I’m here even when I didn’t apply! But that was so damn kind of you, it brought a giant smile to my face- thank you. I’m looking forward to the day when you post “ACCEPTED” on one of these threads. It’ll come soon, believe it.
@yypfalllaan I applied for this Fall '18, just about a week ago. I’m not super huge on the whole “stats” thing, but I have a 3.93 at a community college in Florida, around 80 credits, 34 on the ACT but that’s not too important at this stage. ECs revolve around science outreach, which is my gig :)) Doing an internship right now, and have one lined up for the Summer too! Hoping for some good news on the scholarship, that’s about it really.
I’m a veteran with admissions already, this isn’t my first rodeo, but my third lol I’ve stared this beast too many times in the eye and I’m so glad this is the last time.
@AllDogsAreGood I applied to Amherst, Willians, Cornell, and Wisconsin in Madison. I have received offer from Wisconsin, but don’t plan to go there. I am still waiting for the remaining three colleges.
@AGoodFloridian This is my first time and I am super nervous now since all these colleges have a very low acceptance rate. Hopefully, this is also my last time
Best luck to all!
@AGoodFloridian You’re going to do so many great things! I’m sure you’ve been showered with compliments a infinite number of times, but you truly deserve them! I’m excited for your future, and I hope even after we get into our colleges, I’ll see you update in the future.
@yypfalllaan Why are you deciding to transfer now? Is Amherst the dream school for you?
@AllDogsAreGood I plan to apply to a graduate school so I think Amherst is more suitable for me. And it’s also the dream school for me.
@yypfalllaan I applied to transfer to Amherst as a sort of joke. I think I have 0 chances of actually getting in so I’m not even sure if I can help you. I think you have an awesome chance of getting in though. Your academics are great, but what about your extracurriculars?
I guess I didn’t realize how difficult the school is to get into? Does anyone know the amount of transfers they usually accept?
@Morgan212 I don’t have some outstanding ecs, just some volunteer activities, TA of Physics in high school, chess club, and I am now doing a research. Thank you for chancing me, and I think everyone has a opportunity.
@AllDogsAreGood They usually admit 1 out of 20 applicants, so it’s pretty difficult to get into.
Hi. Two questions:
- What is the probability of getting accepted as an international transfer student, given that your profile is excellent?
- When do the results generally come out? I saw 5th May in a couple of places but doesn't Amherst send out an email a week prior to the release date?
@baalayien I just got the email this morning – got a smol heart attack because I thought it was our decisions, but it was just Amherst informing us our decisions will arrive before May 11th.
my info: I’m a sophomore transfer from MIT. I know Amherst doesn’t really like to take kids from top schools, but I’m hoping my unique financial situation will help. Also, back in high school I attended one of their DIVOH weekends and really enjoyed it the campus is beautiful, y’all.
@baalayien Are you currently in a U.S. college?
@ramenflavors I just got the email this afternoon about the decision date. But I think MIT is also need-blind, right?
Received my acceptance today! GLTA still waiting!
@ramenflavors I was expecting the email but I still got a small heart attack lol.
I’m really hoping they take you! I’ve never visited but the pictures of the campus are amazing. I don’t really have much beyond a decent transcript and a strong reason for transferring- I’m from a third-world country where academic freedom is increasingly being repressed and so its becoming really hard to study what I want. Hoping its good enough for Amherst!
@yypfalllaan no. I couldn’t find any information on international transfer students beyond the fact that they can apply and that Amherst meets demonstrated need so I was wondering if anyone knew anything.
