blindsided: I am international student from Vietnam and plan to do RD. Are you an int’l student, too?

The supp essay really discouraging me though:(. All the 5 quotations look intimidating, and as an international student I am having trouble understanding them, not to mention writing a 300-word essay about them:(

I always want to major in Bio/Chem/Biochem (Pre-Med). How are Amherst’s biological sciences? There is no doubt about the school’s reputation in the social studies fields, but how about the sciences there? I am looking for some research opportunities in undergrad, so how is the research thing going on at Amherst, considering the fact that it’s a LAC?

Please answer these questions for me. Thank you in advance:)

@idonotknow: Yep, I am an international student too!

Those 5 quotations do look intimidating but remember “It is not necessary to research, read, or refer to the texts from which these quotations are taken; we are looking for original, personal responses to these short excerpts. Remember that your essay should be personal in nature and not simply an argumentative essay.”

So go for the one in which you can give a more personal account about your ideas or work or background and etc. For example I went for option 3 because I wanted to to talk about my contributions to society. In the same way you have to find something that’s close to you. Just go over the options, pick one, put your thinking cap on and write away.

Im not really sure about the sciences but I do know for a fact that they have super research opportunities in every field.

Hope it helps :)

@uponthesun i’ll most likely double major in poly sci and law, jurisprudence, and social thought. The fact that the latter major even exists is why i love Amherst

I wanna double major in biology and Spanish :D

Wow, you all have such fascinating interests! I’m currently undecided haha Does anyone know if we get decisions through email or the account on the website?

I’m totally new here, and made this account just so I could join in on this thread, hi guys !
I’m an international student applying ED to Amherst …and I was wondering, what are your SAT I and SAT II scores ? (I’m not very proud of mine, so I just wanna know) ^^ …

I believe SAT scores might be a touchy topic lol

Btw any idea how many people applied for ED this year ?

Ahh, yeah it probably is a touchy topic haha

For the class of 2014, 440 students applied ED to Amherst, and it says 146 students enrolled, and since Early Decision is binding, I’m making the assumption that 146 had been accepted. The number of applicants grow each year, and with the increased competition, more and more people are probably opting for ED.

For the class of 2015, this figure could possibly have come close to reaching 500 ED applicants…so for the class of 2016, it might be over 500.

sigh I just hope I get in. Dec 15 is not too far !!

Yeah, getting in would be great
But I think it’s tougher to get in for us international students, so my hopes aren’t too high…

Decisions come out the week after next! Ahh I can barely focus on anything anymore…like schoolwork…or the rest of my applications >.>

I’m right there with ya bluecanary :)

Yes, same here, why don’t we all talk about our backup plans ? :)

I’ve already graduated from High School and on a gap year… since there isn’t much to do I spend most of the time staring at the calendar O.o hahaha

Well I really haven’t thought of any back ups yet.

Yup, same, on a gap year as well.
Backups are important…I hope you get into Amherst, but by chance if you don’t, you’ll have about 2 weeks I think to prepare apps for other colleges. And you wanna make sure you choose the colleges you like, so start going through a few …

aaahhhh waiting for the 15th of December is quite a mix of feelings, I can’t wait for it but at the same time I’m wishing it doesn’t come anytime soon …>.>

15 days at the most left of the agonizing wait! So excited… and nervous.

I applied through QuestBridge and received my acceptance today
hope to see you guys next year!

Hey congratz !!! ^^
