Amherst’s financial aid is not determined by merit (i.e., someone’s stats or anything like that). It is based on what is determined to be your financial need based on the financial aid forms you submitted. What is called a “scholarship” on the financial aid award documents isn’t a merit-based scholarship. Families with more money are expected to pay more, and Amherst makes up the rest in what they list as a scholarship.

@MohTamer – Why? It’s easy. Because it’s the only school whose name is an anagram for ‘hamster.’ I mean, how cool is that?
But let me tell you why not. No engineering major. So you can’t be a “Physics & Mechanical Engineering Double Major” at Amherst.
