Amherst or Brown?

I got into both.

Which is better? I’m kind of undecided for major/concentration but maybe premed/neuroscience.

Is either one worth more money than the other? How much more?

Has anyone in your experience had to make the same (or similar) choice?

Thanks.

Premed at Brown is notably difficult. Organic Chemistry weeds out many premed students.

Academically, both are awesome in almost every category. Both are also expensive. Choose based on other things. Amherst is a small town thats kind of isolated, while Providence is a city. Amherst is also surrounded by 4 other colleges you can take classes at. Amherst is small with no grad department and no TA’s, while Brown is larger. They both have an open curriculum which is cool.

My sister went to Brown so I like it (I’m applying) but personally I would choose Amherst because I’m a fan of LAC’s. I recommend staying overnight at both schools. If you can’t visit, read about them. You can’t make the wrong choice here though, both are great.

As a future Amherst student, I am clearly biased. However, I do want to remind you that Amherst is recognized for its neuroscience department. Amherst was the first institution to offer an undergraduate major in neuroscience! That is something you don’t get at most LAC. And, as was previously mentioned the 5C does provide some wonderful opportunities beyond Amherst’s already impressive curriculum.

I do not go to Amherst and I would take Amherst any day, no question. But thats my opinion, you should visit both!

Brown. I read somewhere that Brown awards more than 50% A’s, so you can’t really go wrong with a pre med education there. Go where you find a niche and you feel comfortable studying for the next four years of your life.
