<p>I know I posted about Amherst before, but please, I'm dying to know if anyone who applied as a transfer student has heard anything yet from Amherst? If not, does anyone know when we will hear? I've been anxiously waiting since October last year. Could someone at least inform me when transfer students will hear from Amherst? I called Amherst about a month ago and was told we would be notified in June. Then I called Amherst again two weeks ago and was told I would be notified in two weeks. I just want to know that I'm not alone in this desperate wait for notification, regardless of acceptance or rejection. Thanks you guys.</p>
<p>minorityman, i applied to amherst for the fall of next year. I haven't heard anything either, but I was told the replies would go out "late may to early june." they told me that late last month though, so i don't know if that's still the plan. red, it's weird that your friend found out in april...</p>
<p>I also havent heard back from Amherst. I called today and asked admissions office if they're sending decisions next week and the response was ,"Oh, they haven't told me anything, I don't know."</p>
<p>well, not your average transfer applicant (or maybe i am): I am from romania, eastern europe and I just found out I was accepted. right now it's almost 3 am and I can't sleep because I was accepted as a transfer to both amherst and cornell and I haven't received any financial aid package (yet).</p>
<p>if you have visited these two schools please descibe your exeperience. sadly, i have to take the decision of my life from photos( i never set foot on US soil)</p>
<p>hey hihihoh, congrats! i've never been to cornell, but i actually go college in the city of amherst (not at amherst college though). from what i've observed about that school though: it's visually pretty, the kids all seem cool, good if you like small schools/community types. altogether, amherst is a pretty good place; very open (liberal) minded people, with alot of college students from the 5 colleges here. i believe that it's a tad bit warmer here in the winter than in ithaca.
well, good luck with financial aid, roll out the questions on me if you want, hehe.</p>
<p>when i read your message a dozen questions came to my mind, but here is what i'll do: i will wait for my package because is quite pointless to consume your time with "possible/probable".
Though, i hope i will ask you these questions soon :). I heard amherst is pretty generous...
good luck to you too!</p>
<p>I would go to Amherst. Being a transfer you miss out on the first year community, but at a place like Amherst its easier to assimilate immediately. Conversely, there wont be nearly as many internationals there (smaller school) so if you really like to keep with people from your own country Cornell might be better.</p>
<p>respect for everyone who got in, i applied and was rejected as a freshman, but i saw the daunting numbers. it was like 6000+ applicants and 500 acceptees</p>
<p>So nothing in the mail today so I call...I'm told that we can call tommorow and recieve our decisions over the phone because today the "deans are out on an all-day retreat."</p>

hello! well I got my fin aid from Amherst and I am definitely going there!
so, since you volunteered:) :
1. are there any big stores around where I could go by bus to buy something to make coffee and a lamp &other useful things? can you tell me how much(approximately, of course) they can cost in the US?
2. what about laptops? is it easy to buy one in Amherst? How much?
3. out of pure curiosity, what< wormer than Ithaca> means? under -10 Celsius degrees? how much are the usual winter clothes in Amherst?
4. I'll think of some others....</p>
<p>hey hihihoh, congrats!! i'm so happy that you'll coming to amherst haha. so yeah:
1. there's plenty of big, chain stores that sell everything. (stuff like wal-mart, barnes and nobles, bed bath and beyond -- stuff you may not know, but they're cheap, albeit corporate, and have everything you need for your dorm). you can get to the mall/shopping area by bus from amherst center (which is where amherst college is), it takes like all of 5 minutes, it's just down the street. other than that, there's alot of little independently owned shops and restaurants in the center (alot of them are very trendy and cool).
2. as for lap tops, the prices don't differ in amherst as opposed to nationally. all computers are sold through national corporations that have the same prices on their products wherever you go. i'm not sure how many stores carry them here...but laps tops you can sort of get anywhere through ordering them online or whatever. alot of times, elite schools like amherst will have offers on lap tops for their students; you might want to check with student services.
3. the average temperatures for ithaca (given by weather.com) for the month of february was a high of 33 and a low of 14. amherst was a high of 36 and a low of 14 for february. this is in fahrenheit, though. in celsius, that would be about a high of 2 degrees and low of -10. (both cities are in the same ball park i guess...when i said slightly...i meant very slightly, hehe).
as for clothes, (as a girl) i would have to say that the selection around here sort of lags. most american kids tend to buy their clothes from large, chain companies in the shopping malls. we have a mall here, but it's small, and not really any good clothing stores. i suggest you stock up before coming here. </p>
<p>well, anyway, hehe, i'm really glad to hear that everything worked for you! good luck with everything</p>
<p>waitingforamherst, I called Amherst today in the hopes that they may tell me whether they accepted or rejected me but got nothing. I was told they mailed our their decisions yesterday and that we should be getting them in the mail in the next few days. I guess I have to wait til then. </p>
<p>Oh, and congratulations to everyone who got accepted!</p>
<p>yeh, minorityman, sorry for saying you could call and get your decisions by phone. Apparently somebody at the admissions office yesterday told me the wrong thing, because today when I called and said, "I was told yesterday that I could call today about my transfer decision," the answer I got was "Who told you that? you should get a letter today or Saturday, we can only give decisions over the phone if you never recieve a letter."</p>
<p>So I guess there was a mixup at the admissions office. Oh well, sorry for any confusion I may have caused.</p>
