The Amherst website says “You are eligible for transfer admission to Amherst if you have completed at least one year as a full-time student at a college or university.”

Does that mean one can only apply as a Junior transfer(applying during the 2nd semester of your Soph year)to Amherst? Since applying during Freshmen year would not meet the “have completed at least one year” requirement?

congrats OCC!
i wished i had turned on my cell phone this afternoon - the battery died and i forgot to recharge it last night. 5% admit rate? ah well…seems like i probably won’t get in then.

Are you going to accept their offer (I think you should man)?

If so, send me a PM so maybe we can meet up in the Fall. I’m going to be one of the few students living off campus so it’s going to be especially hard for me to find a social group, especially as a transfer. I need friends, yo!!

Congratulations, man, I hope you’re as psyched as I am.

I’m really thinking about it. Amherst is my first choice, but Georgetown has a really sweet deal with Georgetown law that I don’t know if I can pass up! I’m torn.

^
I’m also planning to attend law school after Amherst. I can tell you that Amherst College as an excellent reputation in preparing students for law school. They have amazing resources to help you get your application together and looking competitive from what I hear.

I realize that the deal G-town has with its law school might be hard to abandon, but who knows if you’ll even like Law School when you get there, dude. Of course the opportunities that come with living in DC (or any big city for that matter) might be hard to abandon as well so I understand your overall concerns.

Still, I’d say if your heart is with Amherst, go with Amherst.

P.S. I took Amherst over Columbia despite the opportunties of city living as well. The Amherst campus was just too endearing, student to professor ratio too compelling, and the overall vibe of the college too damn awesome to pass up.

For those accepted: do you know if all admitted transfers receive a call by today? Like juenatics, my phone has been off until about five minutes ago.

No, they only called me because I called them last week saying I needed to know because I had to respond to some other schools asap. He said letters went out yesterday, and that they might take a few days to get to CA. Where do you live?

I live in Austin, TX. I called the office today to ask if I could know my decision, but the lady I spoke to said to call back tomorrow at around 1:30. I’m very nervous.

Got in! I got the call after a Spanish class. It doesn’t feel real. I’m just hopping they give me enough financial aid. I’ve been dreaming about this for the past two years.

Jaykoblives, Thank you. I hope so, too. If anything, after 12:30 (my time) tomorrow, my pointless “My Amherst” surfing for hints as to whether or not I was admitted will cease. (But in all seriousness… if access to that page provides some kind of clue about the admissions decision, I would much appreciate a heads up.) Whatever the case, congratulations to everyone accepted!
