<p>I don't know the workload at Swarthmore, rumor says it's killer. I think Amherst's is perfectly right - it's intense (as college should be) but very manageable. A few people take 5 classes instead of the requisite 4. It can be as intense as you want it to be (probably equal to that of Swarthmore if you really have a masochist in you).</p>
<p>Depends on the courses at Amherst, as is true of all schools. D had 2 killer courses this past semester. Her other 2 were demanding but manageable, so it was a really tough semester, and she rarely had more than 4 hours of sleep.</p>
