out of chemistry, physics biology and psychology, what is amherst best known for? I understand it is not the most science heavy school out of top colleges, but i am considering possibly going into medicine. which science based major given at amherst is most respected among top med schools? thank you

“Major in a subject that interests you! Humanities or social science majors are not at a disadvantage when applying to medical school, if they have done well in the required premedical science courses…You would almost certainly major in science if you wanted to go on in medical research, e.g. to enter a combined M.D./Ph.D. program.”

In my opinion, Neuroscience is as hardcore as you can get, given its highly interdisciplinary nature. In addition to fulfilling all premed requirements, you’ve got three core courses in neurosci and three more science electives. However, even if you major in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, you can make your curriculum as rigorous as you want. With the Open Curriculum, you have that sort flexibility to impress with breadth and depth.

thank you for the reply. looking at the majors i kindof figured that neuroscience was prbly the most advanced there was. im not commited to nething right now tho, might end up in economics who knows

Yeah, economics as a backup. That makes us prospective econ majors feel just so privileged.

hahahah im sorry i just am not sure if id enjoy majoring in econ
