Thanks ladies!!

She’s taking an ACT prep course right now. She’s typically an average student and doesn’t typically test well (test anxiety, overthinks/overanalyzes, gets frazzled by the thought of running out of time). She’s going to take the test in December, and AGAIN in February (unless she gets a fabulous score in December!).

Yes, I will also have her take the SAT as well since I’ve heard some do better on that than the ACT.

@WisconsinMom1021 …be careful on the Associates degree issue. Some states (not sure if Wisconsin is one or not) penalize students if they accumulate more than a set number of hours. An associates degree is not needed for most careers and certainly not needed for transfer and you could actually waste a bit of $$ on classes that won’t transfer or won’t be needed.

Your story is going to have a happy ending because you are starting this year instead of fall of senior year. She sounds like a great kid and is highly motivated–get her on board with preparing for these tests (i.e. not just attending a prep class, but really preparing…message me if you have questions). Keep doing research and find schools with automatic merit. She may end up with a lot of choices.

And finally, don’t beat yourself up!

@Madison85

Could you please discuss articulation agreements between CCs in Wisconsin here?

@carachel2 the student needs to attend a cc with an articulation agreement with the four year schools. In addition, a conversation with the transfer coordinator at the CC might be valuable. You are painting a picture of CC enrollment that is NOT the norm in most places.

@thumper1 …for sure the student needs to meet with the transfer coordinator! That goes without saying.

I agree it may not be the norm in most places which is why I did say some states and not sure if Wisconsin is one of them or not. I do happen to live in such a state and had no idea—just trying to help people out and make them aware of all possibilities!

Madison College has a guaranteed transfer program to UW-Madison. That’s about all I know regarding articulation agreements. @thumper1

@WisconsinMom1021

Have you heard of the 4-year tuition remission scholarship for musically inclined Wisconsin residents to attend certain UW system schools? It’s not a requirement to be a music major - you just have to take band every semester in college.

The audition/scholarship competition is in June during the UW Summer Music Clinic after the junior year of high school.

Your daughter needs to fill out the application next spring and pay to attend the one-week music clinic if she is interested in competing for one of the 10 scholarships.
