Amount Of Early Apps

i e-mailed jhu asking about how many early applications they received. THEY SAID THAT IT INCREASED BY ABOUT 30 %.

utterly speechless.

i've predicted what the early decision admit rate would be this year - about 53 percent. But i didn't expect so many people to apply early to jhu!!!

do the math.

now the ed admit rate is close to Columbia's ed rate.

30% holy ****!! did they tell you anything about the strenght of the applicant pool?

columbia takes something like 23%, do you really think the admit rate would drop that low, considering JHU loves ED? That would make it lower than the RD rate last year..hmm

nope. i e-mailed them during my lunch. i can't believed it increased that much. it doesn't improve this 3 week remaining wait.

i think its obvious that the strength of the applicants remain.... a lot of over qualified people apply ED to jhu.

it's so aggravating that ED doesn't give you that much of an advantage... and now the rate for ED ... has come... quite close to the regular admit rate...

no its like 30%ish. well i guess its bad to compare it to that school. BUT STILL 30 percent?????

maybe someone else from CC should e-mail them and ask (for confirmation).

if they say the same thing... then.. :(

they got a big boost in applicants last year and the admit rate only dipped a few points, id be suprised if it went down 20 points this year, but you never know

i just punched the numbers...if the applicant pool goes up 30% (1.3x) and the exact same number of people are accepted, i get 45% (using the numbers on collegeboard)

http://www.jhunewsletter.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2004/01/30/4019a71cf41ad?in_archive=1

whatever. i think a drop from 55 percent to 40 percent is kind of big.

its about a 10 point drop if 30 is accurate and if they dont take more students. If they take more students the number quickly bounces back towards half. their avg SAT went up a few points, which is a lot of where this comes from, but i think in general, their admissions will become increasingly selective as more and more people realize the caliber of the institution and the rumor about "evil students" dissipates

maybe they just counted all the applicants they received so far... like including ED and RD...? am i wrong? if they did that would they have more than 800 apps?

hard to say...if you want, you can IM me on AOBSynapse (AIM) and we can try and figure it out lol

god, why cant all these shoeins just go RD and give others like me a better chance. its just not fair. i dont think i conveyed my anger over the matter. but its there. the angers there all right.

yes the vicous rage is definitely in me. what provoked so many to just apply early?! anyways there's no other way to express my fury besides swearing....

my counsellor and I called today and spoke to some people in the office. The woman said that they werent ready to say what the number was, they dont have that information, but that applications did increase. She did note however that 30% seemed way too high. Just thought id give you my update.
