I just got the housing packet, and I was wondering which was better: AMR or A&B/Wolman housing. One you share showers with everyone on your floor, and the other you don't, but it's also less sociable. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Which do you guys think is better?

I would go with the one where you don't have to share a shower with everyone. Even though its less active, im sure there is alot that you can do and you won't become an outcast/recluse. Also with that type of housing you have less of a chance of catching something unpleasant.
then again, thats just my opinion. I think you'll be happy with both options, your going to JHU after all :)

I found the AMRs to be much more friendly and open. I've never been to Wolman, but I know that A&B are both really nice.

I think it really is just a personal choice. If you would rather have your own bathroom or kitchen area go with A/B or Wolman. If you don't mind the whole sharing thing... go with AMR.

Also, one thing to think about is the cleaning thing. Who really wants to clean a bathroom? Especially a bathroom that 3 other people use regularly... eww. In the AMRs you'll never clean a bathroom.

^^
but then again, you may have to use the bathroom with puke all over the floor...

right now, i think i'm going towards wolman. i like the dorm a lot better than the AMRs. with wolman now being freshman exclusive, i think that social aspect that used to be the disadvantaeg will slowly dissipate.

Wow, you got to actually see the dorms! I've been there three times and have never seen them. How were they?

I started this one a while back. A lot of JHU students replied with their opinions.

I was initially leaning towards Wolman, thinking, "Oh man, kitchenette, bigger rooms, suite style dorms; this is like a luxury compared to AMR I and II."

I'm now convinced otherwise. You only get one year to live directly on campus, right in the middle of everything that's going on at JHU. Living in AMR I or II gives you a chance to experience the "real" college life. They are more communal and push you into social situations. They're also right next to Terrace, which is where everyone has to eat next year. I'd rather walk a couple yards from the AMR's rather than a full block from Wolman. Furthermore, the living situation our sophomore year will be like an upgrade, so we will be able to appreciate it more.

Then again, it's hard to escape the social life in the AMR's, whereas Wolman allows room for privacy and introverted relaxation.

Stay tuned for when the Admitted Student Web Site launches. There will be a lot of information about housing and dining options, and you can always ask our current students on the JHU Message Boards. (Also, the bloggers will be posting details about their individual dorm rooms in early April.)

Stay tuned...

yayyyyy can't wait!!!
