Amtrak makes its way to Middlebury!

Amtrak tested its Ethan Allen Express train on the new NYC-Burlington route this week, which includes a new stop in Middlebury. Soon you’ll be able to take the train from New York’s Penn Station directly to Middlebury. Good stuff for Middlebury students!

Amtrak is a great option & opportunity for Middlebury students.

How many hours from NYC to Middlebury on the express train ? (6 hours & 8 minutes is the quickest that I found. Drive time is almost 5 hours.)

Sounds about right as it’s 5.5 hours to Rutland.

I think that they may also be improving the tracks along the entire line, so it may be a bit faster. So it may be a bit faster in the future (though not by much).

Amtrak to Midd is wonderful news, but it isn’t happening just yet - these are crew training runs, service should start in 2022.

The schedule hasn’t been released but the existing ‘Ethan Allen’ leaves Penn Station at 2.20 pm arriving Rutland at 7.52 pm, and returns at 8.15am arriving at Penn at 1.50pm, and the New York times shouldn’t change too much, suggesting an early evening arrrival in Midd and an early morning departure.

It appears the extension of the Ethan Allen Amtrak service will start next June/July, in time for the 2022-23 academic year.
