Amtrak?

Does anyone have any experience with the train? I see that there is a stop in Newark and another in Wilmington. Can students walk safely to the Newark stop.....? Thanks.

Yep. You just have to make sure you're on the local line that comes through becuase not all the trains that travel that route stop @ UD.

DD tried to take Amtrak home from the Newark station once. When she arrived at the Newark station, all passengers were being bussed into Wilmington to get the train there. They wanted exact change only for the shuttle bus - which, of course, DD did not have because she thought she was just getting on the train - and there was no one at the station who could provide change. Luckily, another passenger helped DD out. She never got a reason why there was no train from Newark, and after that fiasco she refused to try the train again. She could have taken the bus into Wilmington and taken the train from there, but she isn't the forgiving sort and refused to give Amtrak or SEPTA a second try. Most of the trains that stop in Newark are either early in the morning or early in the evening - rush hour trains, so to speak. We were disappointed that it was generally so inconvenient, but since we live only a little more than an hour away, it wasn't that big a deal. In general, if you need to take the train somewhere, you're better off planning to get it in Wilmington.

yup, you have to take the DART #6 bus from wilmington to newark and vice versa. its about 45-60 minutes. they dont usually have trains running from wilmington to newark. they do have septa trains from newark to philadelphia though and you can hop on the amtrak from there, but those are not at convenient hours. mostly in the morning since people are trying to get to work.

so your options are insert city here -->wilmington via amtrak -->newark via #6
and insert city here -->philadelphia via amtrak -->newark via septa (#2 train i believe)

the dart bus is $1.15, but if youre not carrying exact change, you can give them $1.25.
