My son wants to pursue a Busiess major in a school near a big city.
He has his heart set on UMich (EA). He has also applied to NYU (ED). He is also applying to USC, Emory and BC. He has ruled out UPenn ( way too much of a reach), Cornell (reach & tough grading). He has also applied to Villanova. He has identified a few safeties Rutgers and Maryland college park. He also considered Babson but ruled it out (too small)
His SAT is 2170 and a weighetd GPA of 3.91.
Are there are any more schools you would recommend?

Will your son need/qualify for financial aid?

Is your son in-state for UMich, Rutgers, or UMaryland? Their out-of-state COA costs are about $38k - 50k per year. If aid is needed, that will be a problem since OOS publics can rarely meet need for OOS students.

If his safeties (Rutgers or Maryland) are OOS and not affordable because they can’t meet need, then your son needs some real financial safeties.

What is the breakdown of his SAT? If high enough, he could get some great merit if he applied soon to some financial safety schools with good Business schools :)

However, if money is no object, then GREAT!!! :)

we live in NJ. He is apply ED to Stern and EA to UMIch. We are prepared to pay OOS tuition (grudgingly, of course). We don’t qualify for aid and we don’t think he will get scolarship. His break down of his super score out of 2 SAT tries: 740 Math, CR 690, writing 730.

Well, if you’re prepared to pay all of his college costs (which can be as high as $54k per year for NYU), then it sounds like he’s set!

Like an earlier poster said, if he gets accepted ED to NYU, then he goes there. If not, he’ll likely get accepted to Villa Nova or his other choices. And, since you’re willing to pay $200k for his education, why does he need to apply to more schools?

If you were looking for merit scholarship money (which he could get at lower ranked schools), then it would be different, but you’re willing/able to pay - even if it’s grudgingly. :)

I second Erin’s Dad’s rec. on Indiana if he doesn’t mind going out to the Midwest since UMich is one of them. I would also recommend Purdue even though it’s not that high up there compared to UMich and Kelleys School of Business at IU but it’s a great school for activities and partying too. He might qualify for a scholarship too so it would put less burden on you, as parents.
