An A/C dorm question...

Went to Bruin Day yesterday, and it was terrific.
However, I have one question, and the sticky note about the UCLA Housing thread might be too old to be accurate.
Are ALL of the dorms air-conditioned? It says on a lot of places that the Plazas and suites have air-conditioning, but mentions nothing about the res halls. Students giving the tours, however, said that all of the dorms, including res halls, were air conditioned. But yet another student says no, they're not.
Which is it? Being LA, seems like you would want A/C at least several months of the year.

The res halls are Air Conditioned in the loosest sense. It’s there, but you have no control on the thermostat.

The student touring us said (in the Res Halls) the hallways were air conditioned but the rooms were not.

Coastal cities hardly get that hot until July/August…when most folks are out on summer break.

East coast humidity needs A/c…not as much as the coastal cities in the west. Unless you go inland.

All of the Plazas (De Neve Plazas, Sunset Village, Rieber Vista/Terrace, Hederick Summit) have AC in the student rooms that you can control.

The suites do not seem to have any form of AC other than maybe the conference rooms that the RAs, ARDs and RDs use.

The halls do not have air conditioning that you can control. It seems pointless to say they that they have AC if only the hallways have it.

I have given housing tours in the past, and it’s a shame if the tour guides don’t mention this clearly.

I’ve lived in the Suites before in the summer–the summer that downtown LA was a record high–and although it would have been nice to have AC, it wasn’t necessary. The suites are kept pretty cool most of the time because of the shade provided by the trees.

Thanks, phospho…this is just the type of info I was looking for! I was confused after the tour.
(Though, I have to admit, I’m still a little confused…who the he** airconditions a hallway, and why???
Oh well.
Thanks for the info, you guys!

Right, I think there was actually a year that Sproul Hall provided its residents with pedestal fans. Funny… I think it had to do with the construction noises and compensation, but I don’t know I just hope I’m not remembering incorrectly :P
